Are they pretty good or was our Defense just not so strong today?

I heard Spagnola on Talking Cowboys laughing them off earlier this week and saying "Davin Joseph...Trueblood...who are they?" (and his puppy Rob Phillips agreed)...but I was thinking..hold on...they were high draft picks, werent they?...and they were...and I think Joseph went to the Pro Bowl...maybe Fain (is that his name?) too.

So, although the D wasnt great today should we give some credit to the Bucs OL?

I do think they let the lines play today. Which mostly favored the Bucs offensive line as they got a few holds not called.

Their line isn't that good. Our defense struggled at times, watching them gash us on the ground and through the air, especially early, wasn't much fun. Hopefully Wade makes some adjustments, but a lot of guys simply weren't winning their one on one matchups. Jenkins was making mistakes left and right, even Ware was essentially neutralized. That's not scheming, that's just poor play.

You know, the Buccaneers won 9 games last year. I think a lot of people expected them to be the Lions this year. I kind of did too. But that was a decent team, on their home turf, and they played very well.

I'm not afraid to tip my hat when someone plays us well and they did.

Joseph was indeed a Pro Bowler

Faine is decent

Trueblood is like a younger Marc Colombo

their LT gave up the 3rd most sacks in the league last year, but people still think highly of his talent

They have a very good O-line. That right side is especially nasty while run blocking and Donald Penn is a solid young LT. That line is top 10 in the NFL.

This isn't admonishing the play of our D, but to say that the Bucs O-Line isn't good is just wrong.

I tell you what, Jeff Faine ate Ratliff for lunch today and did it largely by himself. I have liked him since he left Notre Dame but he has never been known as a powerful road grader lineman. I am not bagging on Ratliff, but he is going to have to play bigger than that against the Giants next week. His being owned by Faine one on one allowed the Buccs to get an offensive lineman to the second level.

I really think the biggest issue for us on defense, outside of the god awful humidity, was a lack of respect and intensity. I dont expect that to be an issue at home against the Giants next week though. Phillips really needs to quit messing around and unleash the hounds.

Ahem... 18...23... Just sayin'....

They did play well except for some confusion in the secondary. We got no sacks even with that windup delivery. We did get pressure in the second half. It's nice to know Bowen and Hatcher can play.

The Bucs have a decent team. Good in fact and Leftwich is better than I remembered. They will be tough esp at home. They looked better than Carolina did.

And BTW, completely OT here, Washington has a pretty good defense and a decent team.

The East IS a beast.

Well they have this guy named Trueblood, I don't know how good he is but he has the coolest last name in football.

Everyone is talking about sacks etc.. but last year we only had 2 sacks vs their oline and Ware was shut out. I thought Leftwich did a really nice job hanging in there, he was taking quite a few big hits in the second half. He missed a few chances but he played well imo.

Why pick one? You could probably name anyone from the remainder of the draft.

Ah, here's hoping he changes minds this season . . .

Carpenter was the man on this board when he was drafted... now ppl cant let it go, hes a Mike Mamula!

ask leftwich how he feels right now. pretty darn sore. he did a great job of getting rid of the ball just in time. the pass rush forced him to throw quickly hence the low completion percentage. we should have had a few picks as a result of him rushing and throwing under pressure today.
