...The first official perfect offseason thread!

(this is a semi-realistic first shot)

Trade Cleveland's pick and next years #2 for Larry Fitzgerald, then...

Round 1: Antoine Cason (CB) - 6-0, 182, 4.39 - Arizona
Round 2: James Davis (RB) - 5-11, 205, 4.41 - Klempsuhn
Round 3: Darnell Terrell (CB) - 6-3, 205, 4.39 - Missouri
Round 4: Eddie Royal (WR) - 5-10, 184, 4.38 - Vah Tech
Round 5: Brandon Miller (LB) - 6-4, 255, 4.64 - Georgia
Round 6: Marcus Harrison (NT) - 6-3, 310, 4.98 - Arkansas
Round 7: Joe Flacco (QB) - 6-6, 230, 4.86 - Delaware

Why?

Yeah, that may seem like a lot to give up, but Fitz is a proven #1 WR in all phases, a tremendous playmaker who can get deep and go up and get the ball. This would be a bargain, IMHO.

I like Jenkins at this slot, and I absolutely love Lowery's playmaking talent, but I went with speed and pure cover ability. I'd take any of the three, and King may fall because of off the field stuff.

James Davis is FAST and instinctive. He's a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball, perfect complement to the Barbarian. Tashard Choice is big and fast, a great back, but he'll be long gone. I like Cory Boyd, too, a huge runner with good speed and great hands.

Terrell may not last that long. He's a big corner with tremendous speed who can probably play safety, too. Two corners on the first day? We need to get better in nickel situations, and neither Newman nor Henry is getting any younger.

Eddie Royal is FASSSST, and he's a superb punt returner. He can be a deep threat in the Santana Moss mould, although Tech's offense doesn't showcase that aspect of his game.

Miller is big and extremely fast. He has all the tools to get to the quarterback.

Harrison is physically typical of NTs, but extremely quick for his size. He'd fit Wade's aggressive scheme perfectly.

Flacco looks good on paper.

The operative words being "right now." I think Jones will be gone.

I think we should wait a little longer till we do a trade with the cleveland's pick, but we do need a WR I think Terry may have played his last NFL game.:cry2::cry3:

You think those measurables are right for Brandon Miller?

I doubt anyone that is 6'4", 250, and runs a 4.6 lasts until the 5th round.

Well, he's been in and out of the starting lineup in college and posted his first interception as a senior. Me thinks he runs closer to 4.9 than 4.6.

Bobby McCray was a 6th round pick, was he not? Mark Anderson was a 5th round pick, Darryl Tapp was a late 1st day/2nd day pick

players like that drop all the time on draft day

And Mark Anderson should have been picked much, much higher. Based on the formulas I posted this past offseason he was a borderline first round candidate. And his production in the NFL proves it. McCray also put up 10 sacks last season from the backup role.

So, yeah, a player with those measurables may go late, but it's for stupidity of NFL GMs.

Darryl Tapp is much shorter and runs a 4.83.

I love the idea of trading a first for Larry Fitzgerald. He's still young, and is PROVEN. No way would he be a bust for us, so I think its minimal risk, high reward.

He'd be absolutely perfect here.

true, just pointing out that for whatever reason: need, value, or as you put it, stupidity, great players w/ great measurables slip through the cracks

Look at Brian Robison. We were screaming that this guy was a mid-first day pick, very borderline 1st rounder. He slips to the 4th round and now he has 4 sacks in 6 games as a backup. You can't tell me that 32 NFL teams didn't have need for an freakishly athletic OLB/DE.

Almost everyone currently drafting ahead of Clevelands pick are in need of a #1 WR and are thinking the same thing.

Trade Clevelands 1st for Fitzgerald.
Trade our 1st for Adrian Peterson.
Trade our 2nd for Champ Bailey.
Trade our 3rd for Joe Thomas
Trade our 4th for Tom Brady (eh, what the hell)
Trade our 5th for Patrick Willis
Trade our 6th for Devin Hester
Trade our 7th for Jamal Williams (shore up that NT spot some more)

1st Round
Desean Jackson - WR Cal (If there is no RB rated higher on this pick)
Malcolm Jenkins - CB Ohio State

dude, I get it, but it's not rare for freakish athletes at any position to slip down in the draft, it happens all the time to some team's benefit

I would not trade a 1st and 2nd for Fitzgerald. That's too much IMO.

James Davis in late round two is a steal, if he lasts that long, we'd be fools not to take him.

I love Davis, but I think CJ Spiller would fit what we're looking for better, someone to be that 3rd down back so Barber can be the feature back, but I got to tell you, the 2 South Carolina teams have some good backs, James Davis and Spiller for Clemson and Cory Boyd for South Carolina, Boyd would be a nice 3rd down back as well

You know I always got caught up in the 'Desean is just a punt returner' talk until this weekend when I specifically watched his play. He had some nice catches over the middle; one where he had to reach back for the ball and still take the hit.

Now, I don't think he would ever be a #1 WR and that's who you normally spend a first round pick on, but I might think about spending a first to get a replacement for Terry Glenn on offense and a replacement for Crayton on punts.
