Diagnosing plays, positioning players, and wrapping up the open field ball carriers is what Downs will do. There will be some pessimistic fans that will ask how can we expect Caleb to be everywhere all the time. All I can say is watch the film

This Caleb Factor is gonna create a lot of leeway. It is the equivalent of a tight rope walker working with or without a net. Many of our rookies will be bailed out because of him, which will in turn give them confidence in knowing their mistakes will not be as critical. Caleb will have their backs. Of course this applies to the veterans as well

But of course all the other amazing additions will also be a Factor . . . Go Cowboys

My expectation is VERY high for next year. Simply put, it's based on the additions in FA like Thompson, trades like Winters and draft picks like Downs.

This isn't true if he is playing slot...which they said he is going to do.

He's going to have edge/flat responsibility and won't have much leniency in playing downhill. What happens between the tackles will be mostly irrelevant to him.

You heard that he was gonna play slot exclusively? Or is that how you interpreted information that was completely contradictory to your understanding?

They literally said they are going to play him as the nickel. The nickel is a slot. Call it an overhang if you want.

That player, regardless of what you want to call it, has explicit gap responsibilities against the run. It is not a read-and-react player.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a defensive player with this high of expectations right away - ESPECIALLY a safety.
Maybe it's a combination of this draft being fairly weak, but it's been pretty crazy the talk surround Downs and what he is going to do for this defense.
