If 2009 was the special teams draft, 2021 is the cap draft.

The year that Stephen Jones finally integrated his masterful cap management and player evaluation and drafting into one seamless process.

With 11 average guys who can come in and just be on the roster on the cheap for 4 years, this team will be sure to win the coveted money management trophy, year in and year out.

lol, Not only that, he's thinking down the road, no need to worry about 2nd contracts after the first 2 picks....saving on administration fees too...

Micah Parson is going to be considered a bust if this teams give up +100 yards rushing every game.

Stephen prioritizes the cap above all else. And this year, rather than going after the top players who could help the football team, we are literally just throwing numbers at the roster so he can continue to skip paying people in free agency, recoup comp picks, and do this exact same thing every year.

I have no idea what the fan base in general wants. Seems like there is no pleasing them. Jerry capitulated and signed fan favorites like Dak, Lawrence, Elliott, and Jaylon Smith to massive contracts even though they are average talents. The fans who buy tickets, jerseys, beers, food, parking, etc. would have revolted if Jerry did not sign their beloved players.

So, all teams have to work the cap. Not easy working the cap when you pay Dak $40M, Lawrence $20M, Elliott $15M, Smith $8M, and Cooper $20M. These 5 players can’t carry a team to the SB. Can’t be a major player in FA when you pay 5 players over 1/2 the cap.

Now the fans are upset Jerry didn’t pick their dream players in the draft.

If Dak, Elliott, Lawrence, Smith, and Cooper were all so good and played like they were paid, one wouldn’t get all bent out of shape with the draft. Problem is Dak, Elliott, Lawrence, Smith, and Cooper are average talents and need much better (and cheaper) players to succeed.

Fans are upset because the team is content to draft lesser talent if it means having more cheap contracts. It's less about football, more about managing the salary cap. I don't follow football because I give a **** about money.

Win. They haven't.

I feel these - other then our first rounder - are rotational players.

Is Wil McClay trying to get fired?

If they picked premium players - say in 4 years - think the CAP will go up and we will have shed some of the higher priced players????:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

They've been playing moneyball with the defense for 10 years now. Why they paid Jaylon is actually a headscratcher, I guess it was justifying their initial investment in him.

Terrible FO.

What is the difference in salary paying 11 players where they are slotted now versus paying say, trading 4 players and having 7 players drafted higher? I am guessing the salary difference is not much.

The Cowboys might be going with numbers and hoping to hit on a few. Drafting 11 player at say 50% (5.5 statistically hit) odds of success versus drafting 7 players at 60% odds (4.2 statistically hit).

The draft is a gamble anyway and this year an even bigger gamble due to players opting out, less practices, COVID restrictions, etc. Maybe going the increased numbers rate is better this year. Who knows?

Win. They haven't.

Which leads to the conundrum. Fans want to win with their beloved stars Dak, Lawrence, Elliott, Smith, and Cooper. Money-spending fans want to see their stars first and foremost. Winning is a second priority with these fans. Can’t win with Dak, Elliott, Smith, Lawrence, and Cooper on monster contracts. Fans worshipping their stars with average talent lead to monster contracts and little chance of winning.

The Cowboys did not restructure Lawrence, Elliott, Cooper, and Jaylon Smith. Leads me to believe this might be the last year as a Cowboy for them if they fail to produce again like last year.

Parsons can easily replace Smith, Pollard (or any other RB drafted) easily replaces Elliott, Lawrence is a JAG, and Lamb and Gallup can replace Cooper.

Assuming Jerry and more importantly, the fans, are finally done with watching average talent on monster contracts playing mediocre football.

Micah Parson is going to be considered a bust if this teams give up +100 yards rushing every game.

Micah Parson could be considered a bust if the Cowboys don't get a HOG on the DL to allow the LBs to do there job.

IE. Ray Lewis was a great LB who got alot of help from the HOGs on the DL eating blocks (DT Tony Siragusa)

I like how Stephen reminds us that we need more picks because of Dak’s contract.

He knows what he did was stupid and did it anyways. Gotta love this team.

LOL at you calling anyone predictable or ignorant as you sit here and for the millionth offseason in a row justify and rationalize what a great job the Cowboys did in the offseason again only to have to wake up every January and realize they made a fool of you again as the team failed to do anything of note in another season.
