The cap draft

Micah Parson could be considered a bust if the Cowboys don't get a HOG on the DL to allow the LBs to do there job.

IE. Ray Lewis was a great LB who got alot of help from the HOGs on the DL eating blocks (DT Tony Siragusa)

they dont need HOF at HOGs they brought in many DL now in FA and Draft ..Urban was 3rd rated against the run DL last year, healthy woods, hill, and Gallimore rotating with some fresh blood..add in all 16 with Gregory and Basham is better then Tcraw..they are trying to fix a bottom five rated defense in one offseason with new defensive staff and scheme. Its tough task..im betting we get back into middle of the pack and thats an accomplishment in one offseason..

give the bsiin complains and skuy is falling crud negativity to minimum..ughh

oozes negativity

Texas will be the next movie spot for Ghostbusters 4 ie movie based on NY being so negative it allowed hell into the city and only way to get rid of them was being positive..we are doomed!!

I am generally curious if there will ever be a point where you just say to yourself, "You know what, I can't defend these guys anymore."

In other words, every offseason, you get bullish on what they did at DT, for example. And every year, their cheap, bargain bin ways usually end up with DT that ranges from mediocre at best, to pathetic (like last year), at worst. Then this offseason, they basically repeat the process - sign a bunch of JAGs, draft a very need specific DT in the middle rounds and then expect that this time, gosh darn it, it will work.

If it fails again this offseason and we get average to bad DT play, will that be a breaking point for you? Or will you just put on your Cowboys pajamas and defend them again when they sign/draft a new batch of JAGs at DT in the 2022 offseason?

I have no idea what the fan base in general wants. Seems like there is no pleasing them. Jerry capitulated and signed fan favorites like Dak, Lawrence, Elliott, and Jaylon Smith to massive contracts even though they are average talents. The fans who buy tickets, jerseys, beers, food, parking, etc. would have revolted if Jerry did not sign their beloved players.

So, all teams have to work the cap. Not easy working the cap when you pay Dak $40M, Lawrence $20M, Elliott $15M, Smith $8M, and Cooper $20M. These 5 players can’t carry a team to the SB. Can’t be a major player in FA when you pay 5 players over 1/2 the cap.

Now the fans are upset Jerry didn’t pick their dream players in the draft.

If Dak, Elliott, Lawrence, Smith, and Cooper were all so good and played like they were paid, one wouldn’t get all bent out of shape with the draft. Problem is Dak, Elliott, Lawrence, Smith, and Cooper are average talents and need much better (and cheaper) players to succeed.

Are you high ? Jerry listened to the fans and signed these bloated contracts for us ? Jerry did all this contract carnage himself. If he listened to fans like us, Dak and Jaylon would be gone, Zeke would still be holding out, and Lawrence and Coop would be playing for average money or be gone too. You’re right - they play average and we can’t pay anybody else so hence the average records - in a good year.

You must be new here. Almost every person on this board wanted Dak to get his $40M and Elliott his $15M. Same fans said pay Cooper because Dak needs weapons and can’t do it all. Same fans demanded paying Lawrence.

Those like myself and you are definitely in the minority when it comes to giving monster contracts for average talent. Jerry gave the fans what they demanded.

There are people in our fanbase that believe in the power of positive thinking. They think they can will this team into success by lauding every move it makes.

Yup Jerry listened to the fans...you have his phone number ? I can give it to you if you lost it. You are high if you think the majority of fans here wanted Dak and Zeke to get those numbers. Put the bong down.

But at some point, common sense has to kick in for fans, right?

I mean you can literally look at our FA and draft moves at DT over the last decade. Then compare it to the actual DT play we got over the last decade. How can one then assume, you know what, what they continually do is smart?

At some point as a fan, have some self pride and stop being played for a fool offseason after offseason.

For me that was 2002. Nothing has happened the past 20 years is a surprise. The surprises were 2007, 2014, and 2016 when we looked like we could contend before folding like cheap chairs in the playoffs.

Go look at the poll taken about signing Dak. Go look at the gazillion Dak contract threads in the last few months. Same with Elliott and Lawrence.

Only a handful of posters didn’t want to sign Dak to a monster contract. I could almost give you their usernames off memory.

So there was supposedly a poll asking fans if they "wanted to sign Dak to a monster contract?"

I think that happened in 1994 when gave up 1st rounder to the Bucs for a bunch of 2nd rounders. They picked Derrick Brooks I believe and we picked a bunch of no names manly because we had to pay for our high price players, Deion, Troy, Emmitt, etc. In the short run it helped because we won a SB but in the long run it did not.

If 2009 was the special teams draft, 2021 is the cap draft.

The year that Stephen Jones finally integrated his masterful cap management and player evaluation and drafting into one seamless process.

With 11 average guys who can come in and just be on the roster on the cheap for 4 years, this team will be sure to win the coveted money management trophy, year in and year out.
Stephen is chuckling all the way to the bank.

Tagging Dak and using the 10th pick on Fields would have been the ultimate cap saving move. Maybe they could have traded Dak to the Bears for 2 first round picks?
