This hasn't been approved by the NFLPA and then signed by the owners with a majority vote. Until then it is nothing more than arguing points.

It has dissension from not only some players coming out but officers within the Union itself. And the owners vote was not unanimous.

There are still a lot of players around from that last CBA and not happy about how that turned out or their representation.

IIRC, approval is required from 75% of player reps and a majority of all players.

Long way to go yet.

This is random but I wonder if the owners use it as a tactic to not all vote unanimously so that it looks like they are giving something up that they all can't agree on.

I may be way off basis because I really haven't followed these things in the past.

Yep and putting a 250K on that 17th game isn't going to fly with many of them. The owners will get more from the Nets and all players getting an additional full game check will be a sticking point.

How many care about the pot changes, using that as a bargaining chip is just stupid.

The players would like the whole elimination of 1 of the tags and the lesser punishment for weed but the 250 K thing for game 17 isn't going to fly

I haven't either and we don't know who wasn't on board or why or even why they released that information. It was either approved by ownership or not, the vote is irrelevant.

I think, after that last crater by the NFLPA, there are some more vocal players than the last time. I saw an article by a labor attorney in NYC, well versed in union matters, say that if the other unions had leadership that poor, they'd be looking for the bodies.

I think there's going to be some muscle flexing going on by some, other than the guy heading it up and they may get rid of him, before this gets settled.

I think that 17th game idea for anything less than a full game check for every player was a huge mistake. While it's true that the NFL average player salary doesn't come close to the NBA or MLB, it is still a star driven league. Think QB's getting almost 3M per game are going to take 250K to play a 17th game?

$250k is what a $4m salaried player gets per game. The average salary in the NFL is $2.1m.

Stars don't get extra votes and for most of the players it will be more than double their current game check. Overall it is double the average gamecheck.

If that's it, then this is easily resolved. Up it to $500K for that game, and that'll get it done.

The bigger issue is (1) I think the players want more than 48.5% of revenue, and (2) they need to LOWER the veteran minimum, which is costing a lot of guys jobs that are good enough to play longer.

But hey, they get to smoke weed at will, almost never practice, and Goodell is no longer overseeing suspensions. Sounds more like summer camp than NFL football.

No, it is not. That 250K is the cap on the additional game, the players are not guaranteed that. They get an additional game check maxed out at 250K. If their usual is 48K, that's what they're getting.

This is how negotiations usually work - one side starts high, one side starts low, and they both push towards the middle while trying to gain as much margin as possible.

The Shield just started with their high offer. The NFLPA will come back low, and on we go for the rest of the summer.

That part with a limit of 16 in pad practices, that going to help or hinder tackling and safety?

In the day, these guys were in pads a hell of a lot and injured half the time of these powder puffs that want to limit practice. Let's not make it about the quality of the game but comfort for a bunch of spoiled millionaires. I just can't practice today, have to meet with my agent, my investment guy and get a massage. I might be able to work in a walk through between cocktails and dessert.

JJ Watt said “ a strong no” on Wingo & Golic about 17 games proposal.

I don't like the 17 games because it is an odd number. The games must be even as to have the same number of home games for everyone. I'm all about symmetry!! :p

The only kicker is the league is offering to increase the players share from the current 47% of TV but not more than 50%. A point or two might be a significant increase for some.

Yea. I can’t imagine some teams getting 9 home games instead of 8 unless everyone plays one neutral sight.
