The Big 3 just got their rings! Just raised to the rafters the 2008 World Championship banner! Let the games begin again.......Big night watching Ray Allen get his Ring. Been a fan since seeing him at Uconn in person during his years there. You could see preseason Freshman year he was a special player.

Garnetts energy can do it again, Doubters this go around must at a minimum see this is a worthy Foe from the land of East that reside with the Leprechauns in the bowels of the Garden.

Good luck and a great season to all. Lets have some fun again!

Good point - I'm all fired up, missed that my bad

Pierce was very emotional getting his ring. He really deserved bringing the Championship home!

celts should have another 60+ win season. as for my spurs, its gonna be tough sleding out west without manu for a while, but i still think we will be a top 4 seed. also, rockets are overrated! i doubt they will all stay healthy all year long. also the most intriguing team to me will be the sixers, its gonna be very interesting to see how good or not good they have become over the offseason

once again, Cleveland proves they cant close out a game....James proves once again that he is unclutch.....way to miss FTs.

I dont understand why they dont do some kind of motion offense, have Lebron drive, then kick it to a wide open Williams for 3....

Lebron dominates in open court and transition and isolated. Make it a half court game and he really is somewhat offset.

Nice Celtic win - not going 66 wins again but 58-60 is my goal.
Pierce nice game tonight.

they wont get to 66 wins because everyone is targeting them seeing as they are the champs, but i still think they will get about 60 or 61 barring any major injuries that is. as for the cavs, your absolutely right, thats what we did in the finals two years ago, you cant get in an up and down game with them because lebron might just go off on you, and once hes hot, he cant be stopped.

except at the FT line......he cant make clutch FTs......he always misses them when it matters.

Banner 17, win No. 1 for NBA champion Celtics

By JIMMY GOLEN,
AP Sports Writer

BOSTON (AP) Banner No. 17 is up in the rafters, and win No. 1 is in the books.

NBA finals MVP Paul Pierce scored 27 points as the defending champion Boston Celtics followed an emotional ring ceremony and banner raising with a 90-85 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night. LeBron James scored 22, but he missed a driving layup with 41 seconds left and two free throws in the last 11 seconds.

In their first meaningful game since beating the Los Angeles Lakers at the new Boston Garden to clinch their record 17th NBA title, the Celtics began the festivities with a 20-minute ceremony to honor the 2007-08 team that brought Pierce to tears.

The Celtics captain - and the longest-tenured member of the team - choked up when he was handed the championship trophy from Hall of Famer John Havlicek, and again when he received his ring from owner Wyc Grousbeck. Once all the players had received their gaudy diamond and emerald baubles, Pierce took the lead in pulling the ropes that slid the "2008 World Champions" banner into the rafters among all the others.

The Cavaliers chose not to watch, having been deprived of a chance for a title of their own when they lost to Boston in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. James outscored Pierce 45-41 in that man-on-man shootout, but Pierce's team got the better of James' in the series, and again on Tuesday.

Pierce had 11 points in the third quarter, when the Celtics outscored Cleveland 24-13 to take a 67-63 lead. Boston scored 12 of the first 14 points in the third, then the last eight of the quarter to turn a four-point deficit into a four-point lead.

The Celtics led 86-80 with 1:15 left when Mo Williams, Cleveland's big offseason acquisition, hit a 3-pointer from the left side. Williams then grabbed the rebound of Leon Powe's miss, but James drove through traffic to the basket and couldn't muscle the ball into the basket.

Pierce missed a jumper, and after James got the rebound he was fouled hard going to the basket; he missed the first of two free throws, cutting it to 86-84. Pierce cleared the full-court pressure with a long pass to Powe under the basket for the dunk and foul.

After his missed free throw, James got another chance at the line, this time with the Cavaliers down 88-84 and 4.8 seconds left. He missed the first, and Ray Allen hit a pair of free throws to clinch it.

Allen scored eight points, and Kevin Garnett had just 11 with six rebounds in an off night for the Big Three.

Except for Pierce.

There were two other games on the league's opening night, with Milwaukee at Chicago and Portland at the Western Conference champion Lakers.

But the commissioner was in Boston to hand out the Celtics' rings.

Good win . I love the celtics, but they won't win 60 games. I don't think will repeat either. James Posey is a devestating loss and the fact that we didn't keep him was a joke. The guy is a great playoff player, can guard 3 positions, can hit spot 3's and get's under the opponents skin with his rough play. The hornets were close last season and with the addition of posey that will get them over the top.

Pretty spot on and agree - I see Ainge bringing in a player in spring to fill that roll if Allen/Powe can't fill it.

Exactly a year ago after watching early Celtics I proclaimed them the real deal - because with Garnett they really bought into tenacious defense.

2008-09 what strikes me early is Rondo stepping into All Star role and Paul Pierce hitting his prime. He is scary unstoppable at times. Heck Celtics beat Cavs with Garnett and Allen playing poor. I like how that bodes - LT

pierce is past 30 and well past his prime, he is still a great player nonetheless. rondo will improve drastically IMO but i think ray allen will continue to decline. they would still repeat with just garnett and pierce though, and a very solid team behind them. i just dont think you can look for ray allen to be a star anymore

Ray Allen does not have to be a star - thats my point on why this team is primed for repeat. And don't for a second think like Lakers you don't have to defend ray or he WILL bury you. Hawks/Cavs actually gameplan to take Ray out - West does not and were TORCHED in finals....

If you think you can not account for Ray Allen - watch these clips and rethink that.

im just saying you cant rely on him day in and day out during the regular season, he is past that. he needs to be kinda like robert horry was a couple of years ago now. the best thing for the celts to do is to rely on pierce and garnett for the bulk of their scoring, while managing their minutes to keep them fresh for the playoffs. i think it will be a lot harder this year just because of all the games that they have played, its pretty important to remember that. however i think doc should have at least enough brains to manage the stars minutes and keep them fresh for another championship run
