The Charger Fans

I have spent the better part of the last two days posting over on this board:

This is what I have found out:

1. They think the Chargers are invincible. They are talking how they are going to blow every team out. They don't want to hear any suggestion that last year might have been a fluke or that they face a tougher schedule this year than last.

2. They think Dallas' OL sucks. Every post decries our weak OL and how their front seven is going to dominate us and sack Bledsoe repeatedly and stuff Jones. Blah, blah, blah.

3. They think their front seven on defense is the best in football. They talk about them piling up sacks, and fail to realize they are bringing back the same defense, minus a FS, that they had last year that had fewer sacks than all but two teams in the league. And their draft picks, Merriman and Castillo, that might be able to help in that department, likely won't even play much if they get in.

4. They think their OL is one of the best in football. One that started two rookies last year, and has only one true stud in Fonuti. Oben is an average LT at best. Their right guard is an overacheiver. Despite the fact they got pretty good play from two rookie OL last year, they think our rookie lineman is destined to suck.

5. They respect none of our offensive skill position people outside of Julius Jones, and even with him their only argument is that LT is better. Well no ****. LT is the most complete running back in the game. That doesn't mean that Jones can't give them a challenge. They are completely disregarding Witten as a threat, which I think is hilarious since they know what Gates does for them.

6. The majority of them are predicting a blow out win for the Chargers.

The funny thing is, that I have not been talking trash. I have kept things pretty low key. I am not spouting insults. They just really are disrespecting the 'Boys.

I am not sure we will win the game, but I feel pretty confident that when all is said and done that we will have given them a good run. Should we pull the upset, I will be on cloud nine.

I honestly think we will beat them easily

A couple of things worked out pretty well for the Chargers last year. Not only did they have a pretty easy schedule, I think they had the fewest injuries in the league. But don't forget they were beating the Colts in Indianapolis late in the year, before the Colts came back and won that game. And they also took care of business in Denver last year, if I'm not mistaken. Denver clearly isn't an elite team anymore, but they put enough Ws together to get into the playoffs in a tough conference.

And they should be better this year. Despite the line losing Hudson Houck, they're returning 5 starters who did a good job last year, and its not about how big and fast you are as individuals on the OL, it how you work together. Brees didn't have McCardell until the 3rd or 4th game last year, now he should be much more comfortable with the receivers and the offense. And what can you say about Tomlinson? If your defense has a weakness, Tomlinson can exploit it.

As a resident of San Diego, I know the fans around here are pretty excited about their Bolts. But all of the ones I know are very polite, and most are not taking the Cowboys lightly at all.

Go to any other teams site and almost all will be pumped up for the beginning of the season and almost all will think they have patched holes or a player that wasn't so good else where will all of a sudden turn it around and be just what the doctor ordered...(i.e. see bledsoe)

The Cowboys have more than enough homers on this board alone that it shouldn't have been a surprise that other teams may have them too...

Fans of a team will watch their teams moves and players closely but are pretty oblivious to other teams goings on or will look at it in a squewed way

Let them talk, this game wil be very tightly contested. NO GATES is huge for them, and their WR dont scare me. They have alot of good possesion recievers. Hopefully our corners can disrupt their timing at the line. Everyone is excited and giddy now, lets see come sunday. We are a hungry team this year. I expect a close victory.

Bottom line here is that anyone predicting a blow out win (for either side) is a blind homer.

This game should be very competitive, and perhaps one of the best games of the week. IMO...this game has a couple key factors that will decide this game.

1) Turn over battle
2) Which team establishes the run
3) Special Teams

Not only that when people go to another board they will take things and exaggerate a little...I seen evidence of that from a poster here putting the words in the mouth of a poster there yesterday in the LTN thread.

It's a board full of Charger fans...what do people expect, for some cowboys fan to come in and they start trembling and say their team sucks and will get slaughtered when they play. :laugh2:

From the limited time I have read over that board it seems like they got some nice fans with a good knowledge of the game.

ALL boards will have homers and trolls.

Welp, in their defense they had a great year and have no reason to believe otherwise at this point. We would, as Dallas fans, do the same. (or at least some of us would think it!!) They haven't sniffed the playoffs in several years and earned the right to bask in the sun for awhile with a 12-4 record. Kinda nice to be able to hang on to a winning record for 6 months. There's no reason to think on this very day that they'll do any worse. Now if we win I'll be very, very impressed. Not because of the season opener blues we suffer but we do have a lot of new guys and a new defense and a new captain at the QB helm etc. etc. More stuff could go wrong than right here. Very early for us. However.........I do think BP has long sleeves this season.

I also bet if you scoured that board, unless they weed out anybody who does not tow the company line as it is an official forum of the chargers, then I bet you would not only find the homers that thing the team can do no wrong...just like every forum.

But I also bet you would find those that think the ownership sucks, that the team just got lucky last season, that Marty sucks, that Drews is a one year wonder and they wasted time on playing him instead of Rivers and so on and so on.

It is just the nature of sports boards.

However in that one thread alone I read through yesterday Thunderstruck and Geekster seemed like good guys.

I understand, it's their board, but c'mon. Everyone freaks at any thing you point out. Rack went over there and saw it. I think if they came here, they might see a couple of outlandish folks, but I swear, everyone there is drinking the Kool-Aid.

I even acknowledged, as did Rack, that they most likely would win the game. We gave them props on LT. Heck, they are even making Bwahoh Jue out to be an All Pro.

Here we are, on the cusp of a new season. It's fall, my grill is warm, and opening day is tomorrow. How can one not be in a great mood?

Agree it is the nature of being a fan... and yes Thunderstruck and Geekster and a few others seem like real good guys but I still would expect them to be fans of the chargers and be excited about their team

Myself I think it has the making of a great season opener for prime time TV. I have yet to cheer for a team that had Randy Moss on it so I'll be pulling for Tom Brady and the Pats in this game.
