The Chargers trade for Kenneth Murray in 2020 for you Zaven Collins fans

Moving up for Moehrig would be perfect
I’d much rather move up for Moehrig or Phillips than Collins.

Frankly. I’m just not a fan of Collins anywhere in round 1. I’m just not crazy about him for Dallas. A 34 defense would be different but IMO, Dallas needs to be looking more for guys like JOK than Collins.

Simply not a Collins fan.

Last year the Chargers gave up pick# 71 to trade up from #37 to #23 to take Kenneth Murray

With some of the chatter about how much the Cowboys value Collins, them moving back into the first is not out of the question
Great question.

Not sure if Dallas would want to do it, but if they wanted to get Collins (or someone else, like Moering, etc) at 27 or 28, it would take out 2nd and 3rd to do so. Also would need one of those teams to be willing to trade.

Btw, that trade last year, as almost all do, matched the trade value chart within 5%...in fact it was within <1%...or 99.5% match

I don't mind Collins, but the strength of this draft is its depth, rounds 2 to 4. We can do a lot to rebuild the defense and youth to the OL, by just staying where we are. I don't want to give up picks before round 4.

Say we want to get to the same spot LA did, what else would it cost us?

It'd be tough

The Jets own the 23rd pick

To get from 44 all the way up to 23, here are three hypotheticals:

A) Dallas gives up 44, 75, 99 and gets 23, 186, 226

B) Dallas gives up 44, 75, 115,179 and gets 23

C) Dallas gives up 44 , 2022 2nd, and 179 and gets 23

I kind of doubt we'd do any of these. We'd want to keep that 3rd rounder this year, I'd think.
Plus, of course, the Jts would have to be willing to move down that far.

You could do the opposite, trade back from 10 get 23 and 34. Collins and safety, then take a corner at 44.

Murray is going to get even better.

I remember nearly everyone around here poo poo ing the idea of him at 17 because LB "wasn't a need."

Hysterical what happens one short year later.

If that isn't the classic argument for BPA over need I'm not sure what is.
Murray could turn into Luke Keuchly and CD would still be the better pick.

Yes!

That's pretty intriguing, really. And it's not a crazy trade, value-wise.

Risky losing that 10 and dropping 13 spots, but maybe that's where the value is for them....get 3 for 2, so to speak.

Could be trading away from a blue chip prospect, but could get your CB/S in the trade.

Im guessing Dallas moves up from 44 to the early 2nd round..33-36 range..but im just guessing

That would be more acceptable, IMO. Still, I’m not a fan of his. One of the things that I’m wanting more of at LB is the ability to change direction. Collins just isn’t going to ever be good with that, although there are things that he is really good at. It is why I’m more interested in a guy like JOK at LB.

Getting to the ball very quickly has more to do than just a straight line 40 time. It is lateral mobility, change of direction, pure speed and the ability to process quickly. I like JOK better in every category there.

Im probably not as high on Collins as I should be. I’m probably underselling him a bit.

However, with Quinn having had Deion Jones in Atlanta and now bringing in Neal to play some LB... it looks like Quinn may feel similarly about quickness. And that will never be a strength of Collins’.

Re Collins would you prefer

10. Patrick Surtain
44. Jabril Cox/Browning

Or

10. Zavien Collins
44. Tyson Campbell/Melifonwu

When you put it that way, I would prefer the second combo. I think Campbell is alot like Diggs last year, without the ball skills. He'll need some time but the tools are all there.

With Cox and Browning, I'm not convinced they'll be able to overcome their questions

With two 3rds, I am all for dealing one if it lands us a day-1 impact defender. JOK, Collins, Phillips, Moehrig, they'd all be that guy.

Being patient in the 2nd has often paid us dividends (Diggs, coulda had Thornhill, Awuzie, etc), and I bet that we could still get a good player by staying put at 44. But your Jabril Coxes and Boogie Bashams of the class are a grade below most of the other names in this thread. We've got the ammo, we've got the need, let's make it happen.

and to this very day, had we Not been in a position to draft Lamb, I really wonder if our target would have been LB Keith Murray (and I was hearing how much Cowboys
really liked him at draft time ) even over Chassion who the draftniks projected us to draft.
I always think Cowboys draft guys are on a different scale and direction than those outside the lines.
Many and most did not see us drafting Leighton Vander Esch in the first round, and more so thought we'd opt for WR Calvin Ridley instead.

Iirc it was reported Chaisson would have been the pick if not for Lamb
