Unless I missed something, none of those former Super Bowl winning coaches actually got a job interview anywhere in the NFL for the vacant spots, and the other hot name, gotta have, Jeff Fisher, didn't leave his post.

Funny how those teams didn't at least "pick the brains" of these proven winners before hiring a new guy.

I have to admit, I am a bit surprised that Gruden and/or Cowher didn't even get an interview.

As for the Cowboys, I'm glad we went the route we did.

I read that Gruden turned down Miami interview. I also heard teams were kicking tires on Cowher but he wanted to put his own GM in place.

Looking for the next Kordell Stewart ?

May have something to do with the lack of success by "retread" coaches vs the success of the fresh new faces.

Miami Hurricanes wanted Gruden. The Dolphins went after Jim Harbaugh.

Probably had everything to do with money and the looming lockout. Except for Billick, most of the coaches will probably raise the salary bar for head coaches in the league. Especially since I believe Garrett now makes around $3.5M/year.

Garrett made that as an OC here.

I thought he was making $3M as a OC and got a boost to $3.5M as a HC. (thats what I heard anyhow)

I think Cowher and Gruden just want too much money to coach. Also, I think both Cowher and Gruden are pretty happy with their good money-no pressure TV gigs.

But he's right. Cowher was never officially pursued, but teams did inquire as to his interest.

He made it known he wanted to bring in his own GM and the interest sorta cooled.

After four years or so out of the league, he may need to just take a job with an existing front office to show he still has the chops to coach.

Also read something on PFT that Gruden's son kinda spilled the beans on Gruiden. He wants to wait until his son graduates high school, but it doesn't hurt to keep his name in the mix every year.

I didn't disagree with him about Cowher. Just clarified Gruden.

Charlie Weis was another silly name we got. He ran off to be a college OC and got his play calling duties yanked in the middle of a playoff debacle.

I don't think Dungy should be on the list considering he's reiterated countless times that he doesn't want to get back into coaching. I think if he wanted to get back in, he could get a job rather easily. Heck, he could probably pull a Leno and be the coach of the Colts next season again if he really wanted to.

Holmgren probably shouldn't be on it either since he has a job where he does the brain picking, and like Dungy, has said he doesn't want to coach again anytime in the foreseeable future.

That pretty much leaves Gruden, Billick and Cowher.

Don't tell me. I didn't bring up any name other than Garrett. Just reporting the results of the manifesto to pick the brains of proven winners.

I think the longer these guys are out of coaching, the less attractive they are to NFL teams looking for a coach (if not the fans of these team).

I thought Miami talked to Cowher and he wanted to bring his own staff with him, but Miami wanted to keep Nolan as DC. After that, they went after Harbuagh.

Dungy said he was getting asked to come in to talk to a lot of teams.

The only team I heard was Penn State.

Yeah he didn't say who, he was just bragging about having to turn down offers.
