I'm all over this one. Looks good. I haven't seen a western I've liked a lot since Open Range.

The gun fight at the end was one of the most enjoyable I've seen.

The Coens should knock this one out of the park. Especially with Jeff Bridges playing the lead.

The Coen Brothers are talented.
But this movie should not be remade.

It's simply wasted effort
IMO in the ENTIRE history of film making, these are the only movies that clearly surpassed the oiginals

Scarface
The Thing

With such a dismal track record, why all the excitement?

Speaking for myself I don't watch a lot of movies made before I was born (I know, blasphemy). So with something like this you have possibly the best film makers of our era doing a movie based upon great source material. That's reason enough for me to be very excited about this.

What about Cape Fear, The Departed, Father of the Bride and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels? 3:10 to Yuma was a very good remake of the original.

Yes, that gun fight was awesome. But the other 95% of the movie was the worst piece of crap I've ever seen in a movie theater, and unfortunately, that gun fight doesn't make up for it.

I hope it is a colossal flop.

CAUTION. SPOILER:

Just to ruin the ending for you, Cogburn signs a free agent deal with the Steelers as a kicker and kicks the winning field goal against the Cowboys in Superbowl XLV as time runs out...

Cape Fear is a very good call. For sake of argument I'll stipulate that all the movies you listed are better. Thats a total of 7 good remakes and 700 failures.

That's why I fail to get excited

It seems that Hollywoods writers brains are so bong-resin encrusted that an original idea in unachieveable. Also I view movies as an art form, so I view remakes in the same light as I would a remake of "The Last Supper"

Next summer millions of Americans will pay to see Battleship & be able to hear Liam Neeson say the soon to be unforgetable phase "B7???.... You sunk my Cruiser!!!!!"

As in politics, when we set the bar so low; maybe we are getting exactly what we deserve

and for those that said that John Wayne could not act - I suggest they watch the Searchers or Red River just as two examples

The Searchers is on now on TCM, it's one of my all-time favs.
Wayne is, of course, wonderful in it.
IMO Wayne is a iconic american figure and wonderful in Westerns but awfully limited in terms of acting range. Ever seen The Conqueror, it generally appears on most lists of terrible movies.

Goonies.

I'm pissed. I might kill Shyla LaBuf... or whatever his name is.

??? What does Shia have to do with Goonies (25th Anniv. Blu-ray in November!)?

He was referring to Shia's restraining order against him. :D

I LOVED the original, but I like seeing different interpretations of books/scripts. I expect a great effort since it is the Cohen Brothers and it appears well cast. I honestly can't remember the last time I was excited about a Western movie coming out (Unforgiven, maybe?), but I will be in line for this one.

I was excited about Appaloosa, but all the good parts were covered in the trailer.

I heard a rumor that Shia signed on to do the remake that is in the works. I could be mistaken though....
