The Cooper Effect

And I’d argue the most impactful FA move in Cowboys history was Deion Sanders for SB 30.

What concerns me about the Cooper trade is we were basically pretty close to being a .500 to below team last year. And in 2017 without Elliott were reduced to a .500 team.

All of this talk about how much more talented roster we’ve built and we’re marginally one key talented player away from lower tier team.

And why I can’t help but wonder what we’d be with a QB as talented as Elliott or Cooper.

Fact check:

We acquired Herb Adderly , Lance Alworth and Mike Ditka from other teams before either Pearson or Dutton.
Plan B was Modern free agency and the start of ruining the best game in the world

I think the original discussion was about free agency if I'm not mistaken

More than any player the Cowboys have added through FA or trade, the Cooper effect is the most impactful I can recall in this FA era.

The most notable and impactful one prior to this was the Plan B for Novacek.

What if the Cowboys hadn't been able to do that and had to keep going at 3-5 with that group of WR's and a struggling QB? Would they have ended up top 10 or even higher and within reach of Murray with trades?

Would that first pick in this draft have been a WR or a QB? Would they be discussing a contract now or waiting until after or well into this season with the present QB1 or would he be fighting for the job? Remember, this QB had been called out by two WR's with their "we're getting open" comments and they were getting NFL open.

If that record had been a top 10 drafting one, does Garrett not only not get the extension but lose his job and does Booger bring Riley in with Murray?

Amari Cooper is our "It's a Wonderful Life" player because his impact affected quite a few and it does cause me to consider a lot of "what if's" because of him. I do not recall one player having this type of effect for the Cowboys in since 1990. If not for him, this team might have a new HC and QB.

So, in an in though the out door way, if you don't like Garrett or Prescott, you can blame Cooper.
Worst separation in the NFL prior to the arrival of Cooper......empty words when the facts clearly show it was not true. Cowboys A.C. After Cooper has been a good thing for the Boyz

I don’t know? I was chiming in on this post below.

I interpreted this as saying at that time Pearson and Dutton were only 2 players from other teams. And why I responded as such.

Yeah I saw that I could see how you could interpret that I was talking about free agency though no problem oh, I mean they're used to free agency in its most simplest form when your contract ran out you could sign with another team which very few did, but yes I was talking about how they introduced free agency as they call it

Either way it was the start of ruining a great game look at the salaries we have now nobody deserves that kind of money I already went on a rant about that I believe in the Prescott thread and money he's going to get

Back in early 60’s my uncle chose not to play for Lombardi’s Packers because 10 grand a year and a 1,000 signing bonus wasn’t enough to move his family up there. I have no problem with athletes making millions if the money is there. If not the owners and networks will hoard it all. It’s no different than any other entertainment entity like an actor or musician.

Yes I could see his point there let me expand on what I was saying this is a brutal sport you never know when your career is going to end so I would want to get all I could to what I'm saying is 50 million dollars a year play 16 football games has a lot of money I could see a lot of other places where that money could be spent and a lot of athletes are very generous I will give them now. However my other issue cannot be discussed on here because it is not allowed if you get my point

Well its no different than a Rapper making 50 million a year or any musical artist. And actors are making 25-50 million a year. Whats the difference. Its entertainment. If you want to blame someone. Blame the fans for generating the revenue.

It's all about entertainment and the money people are willing to spend for that. In the NFL, that is impacted the most by how much the TV nets are willing to spend to televise that entertainment.
