Here ya go, BF. Johnny was my daddy's favorite country artist.

Thanks. I love Johnny. I love that he was such a giving guy.

And nobody else sounded like him.

"I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die." Wicked lyrics. Classic Cash.

I won't do the YouTube clips so that the thread can load a little faster...

I prefer the older country to the newer more "popish" country.

Loved "The Three Bells" by the Browns when I was a kid. The first country song ever to reach #1 on both the Country and Hot 100 charts.

Marty Robbins "El Paso". Love hearing this one even today.

"Wolverton Mountain" which was the #1 country song the day I was born. BTW, there's a great story behind the song, but you'll have to look it up.

"Ode To Billy Joe"– I never tire of listening to this one.

"I Never Promised You A Rose Garden"– Lyn Anderson was terrific. I'm sorry that she's had such a tough life over the last few years.

Great list MW.

I absolutely LOVE "Ode to Billy Joel". I was just singing it the other day while washing dishes! And "I Never Promised You A Rose Garden" was one of mine and my mama's favorite singing songs when I was little.

This next lady I had the pleasure to meet at the State Fair in Louisiana (I assume it was LA, cause that's where we lived) back in '73 or so. I was just a scrap kid of about 4 and she was only about 13 yrs old, and she was my idol at the time. I was in heaven, she signed her picture for me, too. Very cool chick. She was up and coming, but I already loved her. This is still one of my favorite songs, I've been singing it for over 40 yrs now. Poor family. lol

And a few years later......:D
