For the past few drafts dating back to 2007 with Isaiah Stanback, the Cowboys have seemed to have a penchant for grabbing a clearly developmental prospect somewhere in the 4th round of the draft.

2011 - David Arkin, Missouri State
2010 - Akwasi Owusa-Ansah, Indiana (PA)
2009 - Stephen McGee, Texas A&M*
2008 - Tashard Choice, Georgia Tech
2007 - Isaiah Stanback, Washington Univ.
Doug Free, Northern Illinois

As you can see, outside of perhaps Tashard Choice in '08, all of those players were clearly developmental project players that weren't expected to contribute much during their rookie seasons.

Some have clearly panned-out (Doug Free), some look promising (McGee), while others have failed (Stanback and apparently AOA).

Assuming this draft approach continues for the 2012 Draft, what player and position would you like the Cowboys to draft as a developmental project?

*Brandon Williams and Victor Butler were also selected in the 4th round of that draft.

I would look at a developmental QB if we haven't taken one already.

I would take a 2nd CB there assuming we take one earlier and another good one slides.

I would take a RB who can be a good backup right away when Felix gets hurt again or who can be our #2 when Felix finishes flaming out and leaves in FA.

Might need a TE if we let Bennett walk.....please!!!!

I want the qb From northern il Chandler Harnish. Most have him as a late prospect but I think someone takes him in middle rounds. Good arm and vision can run and has been productive for 4 years with a couple of bowl wins

I would like a developmental saftey if we re-sign elam and sens. and hopefully it works out better than AOA. or a TE if Martellus walks which i see happening. Also this would be a good place for a FB.

Watched some clips of him; first time I've ever seen him. Same size as Romo and looks like a very good athlete.

Yeah i watch that Toledo on ESPN early this year and he is good locks on to one side of the field sometime but a good Coach can break him of that habit. MAC player of the year last year and up for Davey o'brian award for top QB

Ladarius Green, he's a 6-6 athletic TE out of Louisiana-Lafayette. Plays more like a big WR than a true in-line guy right now so he needs some development, but he should be a matchup nightmare in the passing game.

Garrett was really hoping Bennett could be that guy in 2 TE sets but he's worn out his welcome, Green is a guy I expect JG to covet on draft day.

I seen a couple of Chandler Harnish games the kid is tough got a good arm escapablity Harnish has completed 65 percent of their passes for 1,547 yards with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also has run for 671 yards and seven touchdowns. Harnish has been consistent this season except for not having a productive game against Wisconsin. He could garner some developmental interest. Chandler Harnish ran for 148 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown, and threw a 54-yard touchdown pass as Northern Illinois wrapped up a spot in the Mid-American Conference championship game by beating Eastern Michigan 18-12 on Friday. The Huskies (9-3, 7-1) clinched a share of the MAC West title, and because they beat Toledo 63-60 on Nov. 1, they own the tiebreaker and have earned a second straight trip to the MAC championship game. NIU will play Ohio on Dec. 2 at Ford Field in Detroit for the MAC championship. Harnish's 54-yard touchdown pass to Willie Clark opened the scoring

Stanback was just added to the Giants practice squad, which means I don't understand the rules for the practice squad. I would of thought he wouldn't qualify?

Without googling the rules again, I believe a player has to be on the active game roster at most nine times in his career to be eligible for practice squad.

IIRC

Even if he didn't qualify for the practice squad, I'd be happy to make an exception and let the Giants have Stanback.

I still remember him returning a kickoff for the cowboys. He fell down untouched, fumbled, AND injured himself. All on the same play. All due to his own ineptitude.

I have a sneaking suspicion that most teams Drafts will look about the same.

I'd prefer we took chances on projects in Undrafted Free Agency and not the 4th round.

Great choice! I am a big fan of Green. He is a playmaker as a receiver, but not much of a blocker. He has been nicked up this season so he will not be on many fans' radar as he was in 2010.

If you are going to draft a developmental player, why not one who was dominating at his position? Green absolutely fits the bill.
