The 42nd pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, Booth was taken in the first season after Minnesota parted ways with Zimmer. In his rookie year, Booth was eased into game action, mostly playing on special teams. However, he saw ample snaps on defense in a Week 9 win before logging his first career start - coincidentally, against the Cowboys - the following week. In that game, Booth suffered a meniscus tear that knocked him out for the rest of the year.

Following Booth’s rookie year, Minnesota overhauled their defensive scheme with a new coordinator. Between the scheme change and Booth’s own recovery timeline, he saw minimal action last year. Booth didn’t play a single snap on defense for the first month of the season, and he finished the season having played on just 13% of the defensive snaps.

Booth was similarly viewed as entering a pivotal year for his chances at keeping a roster spot, although he had a slightly longer runway than Wright. In swapping Wright for Booth, the Cowboys have bought themselves one...

That on its own makes this trade a decent move for Dallas. However, Booth also comes with significantly more upside. He came into the NFL after a strong run in college with the Clemson Tigers. Many draft experts had him ranked high, and Dane Brugler of The Athletic listed him as the fourth best cornerback in the 2022 NFL Draft. Here’s Brugler’s scouting report from 2022:

Many draft experts had him ranked high, and Dane Brugler of The Athletic listed him as the fourth best cornerback in the 2022 NFL Draft. Here’s Brugler’s scouting report from 2022:

A two-year starter at Clemson, Booth was an outside cornerback in former defensive coordinator Brent Venables’ man and zone schemes, including bail and side-saddle techniques. A former five-star recruit, he blossomed over the last three years for the Tigers and had a strong junior season, including impressive tapes against the two SEC teams on the 2021 schedule (Georgia and South Carolina).
Booth stays in phase because of his lower-body quickness and hip-flip skills to mirror routes, staying coordinated in his transitions and in position to make plays on the ball. There is nothing finesse about his play style and he takes his contain responsibilities seriously in the run game, but his downhill aggressiveness makes his tackling an adventure.
Overall, Booth’s tape has some volatility and he must mature his feel for spacing, but he has fluid athleticism, finds the football and disrupts the catch point, three important ingredients to playing the position at a high level. He has NFL starting traits (if he stays healthy) and projects best in a man-heavy scheme.

Now, Booth arrives in Dallas for the cost of a player that likely wasn’t even going to make the roster this year. He’ll get to play for Zimmer, whose scheme seems to fit Booth. More than that, though, Booth will get to work under Al Harris, who has been present for the rapid ascensions of both Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland.

Booth won’t be counted on to offer anything more than depth for right now, though he should get ample playing time in the preseason during a protracted evaluation period. Still, the former Top 50 draft pick was considered a borderline first-round talent just two years ago, and he’s coming into an environment where he could rediscover that spark from his college days. The potential alone makes this a major upgrade for the Cowboys.

This has value...***

This was a sneaky good trade for the Cowboys

Ultimately, he chose to join the defending NCAA Champion Clemson Tigers, coached by Dabo Swinney. The 2019 team featured several future NFL draft picks like QB Trevor Lawrence, RB Travis Etienne, WR Tee Higgins, LB Isaiah Simmons, and CB AJ Terrell.

As a first-year student, Booth played sparingly. He appeared in 13 games but totaled just four tackles for the season. In his sophomore campaign, he recorded 27 tackles and two interceptions after starting four games and appearing in 11.

His junior year was the breakout season that had some scouts projecting him as a 1st round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He earned 1st team All-ACC honors and was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award.

Booth declared for the NFL Draft after his junior year, and after being projected as a 1st round pick by many draft analysts, he fell into the 2nd round to the Minnesota Vikings.

I don't know that its an upgrade, both players have been under producing and haven't shown much for their teams. However, Nashon Wright has had 3 years here and just hasn't impressed so I don't mind seeing how another player fits.

Only reason to believe Booth has higher upside is because he was drafted a round earlier than Wright and has 2 years experience vs Wright's 3.

I don’t get why MN let him go if he’s so much better then Wright.
They likely are targeting taller corners. Khyree Jackson (RIP) was 6’4”, Wright is 6’4”. Most of their depth corner guys are taller 6’2-6’4ish. Could be they want a taller boundary corner.

In reality, it’s all probably just trading one turd for another like the Kelvin Joseph trade last season.

Booth is a much better prospect and more well rounded. Wright was drafted way too high.

Yeah I don’t buy he’s much better…we’ve seen this before in years past with these end of roster trades….Kelden Joseph last year, the Barbie Carpenter trade, the Chauvarius Ward trade…..well that one sucked lol. But yeah more than likely two similar players got dealt for each other. Can’t see him getting in front of Cason or Scott.

Booth also has the missed time because of the meniscus tear, so he hasn't had as long as Wright to acclimate to the game, and he had a change in defense in the middle of it instead of not showing anything in the same scheme for three years, like Wright did.

It'll probably just end up being a swap of unproductive players, but I at least feel like we got the unproductive player with some potential while the Vikings took the one who has proven he's not an NFL corner.

He's going to have trouble making the roster (just as Wright was going to) because we have five corners ahead of him (Diggs, Bland, Lewis, Carson and Scott) and we're most likely going to keep Goodwin as a special-teammer. I could live with us not keeping Goodwin (or doing like we've done the last couple of years and cut him and put him on the PS to start the season).

C''mon. None of you know how he projects. He has a genius cornerback coach and was rated in the first round and a Junior with Clemson last season.

Yes, Minnesota desperate for CB's traded a better player for our weaker player.

Make it make sense.

I reserve judgement until I see how he differs from Wright in the PS.. Right now it’s just looking like one disappointment for another. Yeah he is a former first round pick, but there are plenty of first round busts. Dallas has made several on their own. Rather have a run stuffing LB .
