The Cowboys defense since Parsons trade

The point is, Jerry could have made a trade for better defensive players at any time and he never did. The way Jerry is talking now is not the same Jerry we saw running this team for 30 years.
Yeah this is the truth and it is maddening. I guess he saw the game today you have to spend big bucks. You have to take chances and make moves. Maybe he's figured it out

No, I’m arguing with you and your infamous, worthless, cherry-picked numbers.

:lmao:
How are actual, realized cap hits cherry picked? The math is the math.

If you would like to present an actual, data-based argument for how they couldn't afford to do this without trading Micah, I'm all for it.

I'm starting to come around on this issue, but I'll need to see it when the games count to really change my opinion.
As much as I was against trading Parsons and it still yet to be seen if we take full advantage of everything we’ve received in return.

But it’s looking like it could be similar to Herschel trade as far as quantity and quality we received in return. Now what we do with it is still left to be seen.

You’re cherry picking one year of cap hits for what are large investment, multi-year contracts.

You know it.

I know it.

Everyone knows it.

You’re not fooling anyone.

See above.

The argument is about this year, especially since so many of the new players are on one-year deals. Cap hit is what matters when it comes to what teams can and can't afford.

Go ahead and show numbers on how it wouldn't work over time. Should be easy, if everyone knows it.

12 + sacks his first 5 years in the NFL, despite being the second most double teams play in the league and some fans still don't appreciate his talent.
The guy is one of the 2 or 3 best defenders in the NFL. Period. That is pretty significant.

Jerry should have signed him to an extension in his 3rd year when it would have cost him peanuts compared to what Edge rushers are getting today. He could have signed or traded for a DT during that time as well, to pair with Micah and make the defense much better. All the Micah hate is undeserved IMO.
I agree

Why do people keep saying that. We used this years 2 and a 1 next year. We had those either way. The "better of" wasn't going to keep the deal from getting done
Because the Cowboys aren’t trading 1st and 2nd rounders unless they already had one. You guys I guess expected Jerry to go all in with Micah and add Quinnen and pay him? I’ve seen nothing the last 30 years to suggest he’d take that gamble. They traded that compensation because they knew they had some left from the Micah deal.

Wait ... do we not count last year's defense after the Micah Parsons trade?

I mean, this year's defense is more a reaction to how badly we sucked last year after the Parsons trade.

No, the argument is about what they can or can’t do, which unfortunately for you and your cherry-picked ‘math’ is about far more than one year.

Go ahead and show numbers on how it wouldn't work over time. Should be easy, if everyone knows it.
I don’t need to, your the guy making the ridiculous claims, not me.

Do the math with the cap hits and bonus money for the next 4-5 years. That would carry some weight.

Not the ‘Madden football’ salary cap switched off nonsense you’ve been trying to pass off.

It’s not Micah hate but when you see how contenders are built around the league it just doesn’t involve guys like Micah.

It’s been mentioned several times that the recent Super Bowl winners have had strong play inside, rather than star pass rushers on the outside.

Chiefs, Bucs, Rams, Eagles, Seahawks.

Yep. This should be encouraging to Cowboy fans. They are paying attention.

The defense was never going to amount to anything with parsons as one of the main guys.
I had been feeling that way after watching his performances against 3 good offenses in particular......I also felt that way about Diggs as well at some point.

Both of these guys had to be gone and a new attitude of players brought in.

I like the new additions so far and we'll see the performances and the attitudes in the weeks and months to come

I literally just showed you the math of how they can do it, right now, as they are.

You are calling basic addition and subtraction "ridiculous." Seriously.

Here, you can do it for 2027 easily. It takes 5 minutes to find the cap space for next year, and it only gets easier longer term.

2027 - $322m Cap
Cap Moves:
Restructure Dak - $35m savings
Restructure CD - $21m savings
Extend K Clark - $13m savings
Cap increase - $22m
Total created space: $91m

New cap hits:
Pickens (JSN Contract) - $15.6m
Quinnen Williams - $14.5m
Jalen Thompson - $11.4m
Overshown (Devin Lloyd Contract) - $6.7m
Hooker replacement: $8m
Locke replacement: $5m
Durant replacement: $5m
Winters replacement: $7m
Ogbonnia replacement: $4m
Bullard replacement: $3m
Bass replacement: $6m
Total new cap spend: $80.2m

You can just copy-paste and add an inflation multiplier to each of the replacements every year.
