Yeah, one wouldn't want to insult the overpaid declining commodity running back......I'm insulted the Cowboys selected him in the first round 4th overall in a league where Running backs have become less of a value position and then caved to his contract demands with a year left on his contract.....

He’s probably feeling pretty insulted as a free agent right now.

Believe you’re interpreting this wrong…they didn’t offer him a deal because they wanted him gone. They wanted to move on. They say publicly that it’s not to insult him because it’s good pr. It’s not because they “think he’s a legend”

These old guys nuggets still haven't dropped. So instead of telling him you'd keep him at x amount you just cut him. Why not say Zeke we'll cut you today, test the market and we would bring you back at x amount if you want. We just can't pay you that stupid contract we gave anymore. Then it's on him. But no you too scared. Honestly if he accepted the same pay as RJ then i wouldn't be upset, Dak loves him and the locker room in general like him.

There were still people who thought he was better than Pollard.
Look at this post right now, WASN'T ME!! I've spotted the decline several years ago, and then it was evident to more people. Yes they're two different backs, and years ago no doubt Zeke was better, but now over the last few seasons it's Tony hands down

He doesn't offer the juice RJ offers, hell I know some kids in the school I'm in that are faster than him

I hear ya. I'm not a fan of RJ. Too inconsistent and sucks at short yardage situations. With enough carries he might break a decent run but otherwise sucks. I'd rather give an unproven guy a chance.

Got his bag from Jerry then mentally checked out. Just track the moment he got the cash and his numbers each successive season.

Not surprised at all .........said it in another thread. We as cans can say all we want about and a lot would be true but to Jerry and Stephen, he's an legend.

The Cowboys didn’t offer Ezekiel Elliott a reduced deal to avoid “insulting” him

Just a nice way of saying we dont want you back for any reason at all. Not even at a reduced rate.

I’d take him back for $2 - $3 million a year.

Really cant tell you how pathetic and sad it is to read that. Do you honestly think Zeke would get a few carries from this regime or he would be featured again?

The fact that you cant imagine another back doing better is very sad.

It was 2 years left counting the 5th year option. As for selecting him 4th overall, the right position but probably could have traded down and still drafted him. We have to remember the two straws stirring their thinking in drafting Zeke. First, they initially struggled with whether or not to move up and draft Wentz ( who they coached in the Senior Bowl ) or Goff but decided against it coz Romo was looking to play another 3-4 years. Second, Romo had a career year in 2014 when DeMarco Murray led the league in rushing. So drafting Zeke was all about putting Romo in the best position to lead us to an SB AND covering for NOT re-signing Murray.

Easy answer is they never wanted him back for any reason at any price. Why would they?

It was an overreaction. After Murray they thought someone like Tashard Choice could be the lead back. They were so stupid in that thinking that they overreacted and went all in getting a back. And of course Garrett was pushing hard for it.

I get that sentiment. He gave his all for the team and played hurt which hurt his value
But with pollard on the tag and coming off injury I’d add a RB who can help on ST. Be nice if he had return skills but mostly a guy you think can really contribute if pollard isn’t signed
