The Cowboys have had recent discussions with S Ken Hamlin's agent, but upcoming changes to the collective bargaining agreement have made negotiations tricky.

Hamlin must reach an agreement with the team by July 15, or he will have to play for the franchise tender of $4.396 million. Any long-term deal would then have to wait until after the season.

I hope they can work it out and keep Hamlin for the next 4 or 5 years.

Cut Roy Williams, move Hamlin to SS and then let Henry or Watkins play FS.

Cut Roy, Sign Hamlin!!!

I'd prefer that they keep Hamlin for the next 4 or 5 years , and Roy Williams play a fantastic 2008 season as well , but that's just me . Dallas has an opportunity to have the best secondary in the league for several years if everything works out .

I think this is yet another reason that I can't stand Chount Chocula out in Oakland and wish he would retire already.

Al Davis went out and screwed up the market for players at several positions:

He traded for Mr. Overrated DeAngelo Hall and then paid him $10 million a year on a new deal, raising the wage scale for cornerbacks.

He then went out and signed the talented, but physically-questionable to a deal averaging over $9 million per year, raising the scale for receivers.

He also went out and overpaid to get Gibril Wilson, a good but not great safety, raising the going rate at that position as well.

And that presents a problem for the Cowboys in that Hamlin was a Pro Bowler while Wilson wasn't.

If Wilson is worth what he received from the Raiders, Hamlin obviously feels he's worth more.

That makes the Cowboys job of signing him that much more difficult.

Thanks a lot Al, you putz!

i want to keep Ken Hamlin, he did a great job for us last season.. he's a sure bet to be solid back there..

but from what i hear about Courtney Brown and assuming Pat Watkins has steadily improved, and taking into account the surplus of corners we have so that we could possibly play Anthony Henry at FS, i wouldn't be nearly as concerned if we couldn't sign Hamlin as i would have been in years past, when the FS position was a big glaring weak spot..

that said, i have no doubts that Jerry will get him signed..

It's only a matter of time, but Hamlin isn't going anywhere. His signing is a priority IMO.
