Dallas had a chance to shut everyone up. From Jim Rome to Dan Marino, from Tim Colishaw to Dr. Z, it seemed the entire media contingent was salivating at the slim chance that the Giants could defeat Dallas, the #1 seed, in Dallas.
Yet they looked as they have looked the past month and a half...completely flat and scared to death.
I had the chance to watch the Giants play the Bucs last week live and I knew that if Dallas had played the way they could, the game wouldn't be close. Ware and Ellis would scare Manning into multiple turnovers and Jacobs would be the main focus of Phillips' defense.
Home crowd in white...loud as ever. TO back in the lineup, busting his rear end every day, Terry Glenn on the other side, the best TE in football, the biggest OL in football, the highest rated QB in the NFC...the Giants without their two top corners, etc. What else is needed to be successful?
Unfortunately, I guess, much more. The receivers, namely Loud Mouth Crayton, needed someone to catch the ball for them and they also needed a quick refresher on where to exactly line up on the line of scrimmage. The offensive line needed an extra five or six players to help them block. That whole tackling thing appeared to slip the defense's mind so if the G-Men would tackle themselves it would've helped our Boys in the long run.
I could go on and on.
I deflected all the naysayers back at the end of the season by saying the gameplan's were vanilla, the starters were going to be well rested, blah blah blah. Now, I look like a total idiot that hasn't seen a football game before. Deep down I was having flashbacks to yesteryear when I saw our defense aka Swiss Cheese show up in December. I thought this team was much, much different: A new coaching philosophy that's more proactive and aggressive versus reactive and hardheaded, a full, star-studded lineup of "pro bowlers", and a coach that's "learned his lesson" in past playoff games, however I was sadly mistakened.
The Cowboys got what they deserved for "eating the cheese". As much as we all got tired of Parcells and his preachings, he was right about this one thing. The Cowboys bought into the #1 seeding, they bought into the home-field advantage, they bought into the "all-we-have-to-do-is-show-up" brand of thinking.
So, in a nutshell, the Cowboys gave everyone that's not a Boys fan what they wanted, a pilot light to ignite the inferno of Tony Romo/Jessica Simpson and "Aww Shucks" Wade articles. Jerry has to be fuming right now. I'm glad they showed his face as the time reached all zeroes. That's exactly how I felt. All those months of preparation for a silver platter such as this one only to let it slip right through their fingers and watch it go crashing to the floor.
I apologize for the long, drawn out post.
