The Cowboys may have found their bookend DE's

Who is Seattle’s speed demon? Or the giants in 2007? Osi wasn’t a speed guy being drafted at 6’3 279. Let’s stop this myth. While I would like to draft a speed rusher this year for versatility on the dline it’s not a necessity.

Aaron Rodgers agrees with you. No speed rushers needed in Dallas. :D

Those fantasizing about Gregory need to grow up and smell the coffee. The NFL will not change the rules enough to allow him to play. He is just too far out on the edge as regards his problems as it is; with the pressure of playing in the NFL and all that goes with it - just not going to happen.

One of the positives out of this season is I'm stating to believe the Cowboys may have finally found two quality starting DEs for the future. Assuming Lawrence has turned a corner and not just playing for a contract and, of course, Taco continues to develop.

I just couldn't help thinking as I watched Taco play well down the stretch that this team's days searching for edge pressure are over. They still have work to do inside but the edges may be in better shape than it's been in years, in terms of starting players.

A lot of people have pointed out the two rookie corners and their future. Can't argue with that, they both look legit to me, but I'm more focused on the dogs that hunt. Lawrence was a revelation this year. The arrow is up on Taco and his skill set really is a perfect compliment on the other side.

Who agrees with me? Who thinks I'm just being an insufferable homer once again?
I get to agree! Tank was bringing it this season and from what I read he loves football and gives effort.
You gotta pay that guy. Taco [the bust] has more speed then I thought.
Everybody sees the middle of the line problem

You could be right the evidence falls in your favor. I'm a what are we losing to wait and see man.
It has cost nothing in cap space

I agree. A few questions for you though:

1) Do you see Taco being the starting RDE?
2) Where do you see Irving in this mix?
3) Who are our starting DTs next year?

Of course, at times Irving is the best player on the DL. I'm not too concerned with who starts to be honest. I think Irving is an X-factor. You could move him all around the DL. I'd be happy with a starting DL of Taco-Collins-FA-Lawrence while moving around Irving and possibly Gregory to create mismatches. What do you think?
If I may add along with a serviceable I draft a D1- in first three rounds quality type

We need a disruptive 320 lb DT to take on blocks and push the pocket. Taco es bueno.
I’m with you.

I’ve always thought the most disruptive defenses had a strong push up the middle.

every great defense has a multi tiered defense with great or all pro level talent at each level
Minnesota = Xavier Rhodes Trae Waynes of course great Harrison Smith
Kendricks is not Sean Lee but he is well above average at mike lb
Linval Joeseph is just as disruptive there as he was for the Giants and they have athletic edge rushers

every strong defense has talent at the 3 levels of their defense

Dallas has talent on the line and only Lee in the middle
the corners are promising but not good enough like Jacksonville with shut down corners on both sides where t hey can get by with average safety

i think it matters less about scheme
3-4 or 4-3
all will work if you have talent

Dallas needs another stud linebacker for when Lee is hurt and a very good safety
they need that run stuffing 1 tech like the Giants put a premium on
and Dallas could be a top 5 defense

so yes i think the edge is a young foundation to build on

Two things. One of those SB Giants teams had Tuck who was a quick twitch guy.

Also, give me a Landry type out of this draft and I will be very happy.

Agree. Loving the young secondary to pair up with these DEs. Now, just need to get another couple LBs and a real 1 Tech.

This is the most intelligent post I've seen from you in ages. Almost like there is no sarcasm at all.

:omg:

I have said it before that you have great football knowledge and this just shows it. I think it's highly possible we have 2 edge rushers and need more talent in the middle. A guy like Vea in the draft would help tremendously.

DLaw Is coming off a couple of back surgeries and this is the first year he’s been consistent. His back has acted up some this season and who knows how he’s going to perform once he gets paid. A lot of players have big seasons during contract years then fall off. His back situation concerns me but we have to go forward with him. There’s talk that Irving could be gone after this season which is surprising to me. You have to like what we have in Irving and DLaw if they can stay healthy.

Yep....I"d franchise him next season and go from there.

I have a feeling that’s what we will do and allow DLaw to validate this season. The last time we paid a player big after one great season they (Miles Austin) let us down.

I just don't think Taco is a RE...and, I think he has benefitted from getting TLaw's leftovers. With an offseason and the strength and conditioning that entails, I still probably say he belongs on the left side.

But I think you are right...the defense does look like it has bright future.
