for the longer-term.

We need someone who isn't going to burn out in 3-4 years. (And then we need to go find another coach with yet another philosophy.)

My preference is for Garrett, but even if JJ doesn't hire Garrett, I hope we hire someone for the long-term who is young and energetic. Someone who will be around for more than 3-4 years. (Some people like Harbaugh, R Rivera, etc., etc.)

If the young coach needs a sounding board, we can always try to bring in a guy like D Reeves as a "consultant" (not necessarily him, but someone with his pedigree).

I have to admit, that several weeks ago I was in favor of Cowher. But the more I think about it, a guy like that probably would only coach in Dallas for a few years, take his money, and go. And then we'd be back to square 1.

Yep.

I'd rather see a younger guy, like Garrett, who could potentially be here for 10 years at least.

Sorta what happened with Tom Landry.

It all comes down to Jerry. He's never had a HC for more than 5 seasons.

I hope garrett gets the job... my fear is that he might actually keep some of the coaches or players who rightfully need to go...

there is an uneasy feeling about what might take place with this team going forward...

something that occurred to me reading your post is the board and the fans are clamoring for Columbo, Davis, Brooking et al to be released and replaced.
This probably means 6-7 new players of which several may be rookies
I have a good feeling about Garrett and his development of young players on offense. Defense is another story and that would require a strong DC
But look how Mcgee has apparently progressed from nearly cut in training camp to passing the initial eyeball test.
Bryant made a huge impact at a position that usually takes several years to master
Felix has come around from misshaping himself as a more powerful rb to the multi threat he should be. His burst definitely is back and he is thriving on his role as a dual threat now
Even Bennett is contributing more than in the past
We need a coach that will be able to mold young talent (hopefully) in the next 3-4 years as this team transitions and it certainly looks like we missed our super bowl window and are back to rebuilding

The Cowboys need a head coach who can muzzle Jerry.

That's my concern about Garrett....Jerry is blabbing all over the place.

If you recall the press conference when reporters kept asking about Barber not wearing a suit, Garrett finally had enough and said "Obviously you haven't been paying attention. We'll be keeping these matters in house"

And there you have Jerry blabbing about Barber's penalty yesterday...and Buehler...etc etc.

The head coach needs to be the voice of this franchise. Much as Parcells' days as a quality coach were over, the one thing I did like was that he was THE voice of the organization.

I am starting to move away from wanting Garrett as the head coach because while I do think he has the potential to get the job done, he simply isn't going to be able to shut Jerry up and that's bad news because Garrett NEEDS to establish himself with his players and Jerry isn't going to allow that to happen.

I don't think Jerry will allow any HC establish himself in the nature your talking about here. He has no reason to anymore. I think he did with Parcells just so he could ultimately get his stadium. He has no reason to let a HC have the kind of power he let Bill have anymore.

And that is why we will never win another thing with him breathing.

The single most important step for the franchise would be for Jerry to hand the team off to someone else (e.g., son Stephen).

But there isn't a head coach who can make Jerry consider retirement.

Which means there isn't a truly good choice to be made under the circumstances.

So the real question is this:

Which head coach would be most entertaining to watch as the team endures a few more trainwreck seasons?

I'm reconsidering Gruden. He's quotable, emotional, compulsive, explosive. He's never far from a meltdown. If you can't have wins, might as well have some good old fashion Greek tragedy....

This is so true. I guess we're going to have to ride this storm out.

Our only hope is as time passes, Stephen can give daddy some shoves in a positive direction to help our semi-talented team overcome it's largest roadblock.......The Great Wall of Jerry.

Last night this team looked like they did under Wade. So for everybody that was saying that Wade was the problem and the team just needed some discipline and structure, well maybe Wade was not the problem after all.

Now if we get a beat down next week by Vick and the Eagles, I am going to start having some serious doubts about Garrett. He will be 4-4 during his interium phase and he will have lost 3 of his last 4 games.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for his resume.

You never know. From what I understand Stephen convinced Jerry to say bye bye to T.O. I could tell that was incredibly hard for Jerry to do, to let his circus go.

If Stephen likes Garrett maybe he'll pull some strings for him.

I think this team has relaxed back, some, to it's former state of the pre-Wade firing. If Jerry will permit Garrett should create an atmosphere similar to what Jimmy did of walking on egg shells DAILY to keep this team focused and motivated.

Jerry hates egg shells. He has to be player friendly, it keeps him warm and fuzzy. He's an idiot.

Right now, we need Shephen to be more like this

:whip: or even this :horse: (Jerry's the horse of course)

THAN this  (please daddy, let me make this decision)

when dealing with Jerry.

All of us fans deserve way more than what Jerry has been putting out there for us to support over the last 10-15 years. Can we get some love Jerry? Please

It was a momentary fantasy, but I agree with you.
