Useless post
Lol, that's really funny. Let's get some more deep thoughts on how the Cowboys could struggle. The Browns have absolutely no answer for Michael Parsons. They are going to have their hands full the Cowboys.

Then again they are a pretty good home team (turf and essentially a dome) and it wouldn’t seem that you could have things both ways.

I wouldn’t expect them to install grass nor would I want to see that.
Wouldn't hurt to practice on a similar field before an away game that has grass. Seems logical. What if they by some miracle made the Super Bowl and it was on grass?

Every team brings its A game vs Dallas no matter what, and so do their fans.

Fans of teams that have no business hating Dallas still do. They generally hate the other three teams in their division…and Dallas.

All three fans bases of the other teams in the NFCE hate Dallas more than the other two.
Yes, I saw the Giants A game in week 1 last year.

The NFLPA has adamantly advocated for years to have grass fields for all NFL games. I saw a survey of NFL players this year that said over 90% preferred playing on grass because turf tends to cause more non-contact injuries to knees and ankles because of cleats getting stuck in the turf.

Supposedly the more modern turf is better than it used to be. Some of those old turf fields like at NY and in the old Philly stadium were like playing on green asphalt.

Almost half of NFL stadiums use real grass:
  1. Arizona Cardinals, State Farm Stadium, Bermuda grass
  2. Baltimore Ravens, M&T Bank Stadium, Bermuda grass
  3. Chicago Bears, Soldier Field, Kentucky bluegrass
  4. Cleveland Browns, FirstEnergy Stadium, Kentucky bluegrass
  5. Denver Broncos, Empower Field at Mile High, Kentucky bluegrass
  6. Jacksonville Jaguars, TIAA Bank Field, Bermuda grass
  7. Kansas City Chiefs, Arrowhead Stadium, Bermuda grass
  8. Las Vegas Raiders, Allegiant Stadium, Bermuda grass
  9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Raymond James Stadium, Bermuda grass
  10. Tennessee Titans, Nissan Stadium, Bermuda grass
  11. Washington Football Team, FedExField, Bermuda grass
  12. Pittsburgh Steelers, Heinz Field, Kentucky bluegrass
  13. San Francisco 49ers, Levi’s Stadium, Bermuda grass, Perennial Ryegrass mixture
  14. Miami Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium, Tifway 419 Bermuda grass

Here‘s an interesting trend with the Cowboys the last 5 years: We are 6-17 playing on grass fields (including 2 playoff games) One reason I mention it is we open the season next Sunday in Cleveland on a grass field.

In the last 5 seasons, for whatever reason the Cowboys have played their worst games on grass fields. Obviously all those games are on the road where winning is inherently harder, but the Cowboys road record is way better on turf. Sometimes it may be we are just playing way better opponents. At any rate, here is our record playing on grass fields the last 5 seasons:
  • 2019: 1-2
    • Win at Wash
    • Losses at Philly, at Chi
  • 2020: 0-3
    • Losses at Wash, at Philly, at Balt
  • 2021: 2-2
    • Wins: at Wash and at Philly
    • Losses: at Tampa Bay, at KC
  • 2022: 2-5
    • Wins at Tenn and in Wild Card win at Tampa Bay
    • Losses: at Philly, at GB, at Jax, at Wash, at SF in Divisional playoff game
  • 2023: 1-5
    • Win at Carolina
    • Losses at Ariz, SF, Philly, Buff, Mia
So we have won 6 of our last 23 games on grass. Explanations? We play the egirls at their grass field every year which is tough. But we also have a game at Wash each year. Losing to below average grass field teams in the last 5 years on the road like Ariz, Chicago, and Wash stand out. But we have also played some really good opponents on grass like SF twice, GB twice, Philly 5 times, Balt and at KC. So all those have been tough road matchups anyway.

Any other ideas why we are 6-17 on grass the last 5 seasons?
My guess is that turf helps players cut faster on offensive receiver routes and defensive back coverage, which provides an advantage for teams with lighter/quicker players at those positions.

On the other side, grass tends to dampen some of the quickness, especially on cuts, which gives stronger players a little advantage on receiving routes.

In coverage, grass either forces you to reduce aggressiveness or you pay heavily for guessing wrong as it increases recovery time.

There's no guarantee Zimmer's defense will help things of course and it might just be that the Cowboys players are simply better turf players than grass players, but at least a new defensive staff and scheme provides a chance things can improve on that side of the ball at least when it comes to grass fields.

Agree on all points.

Honestly, because the Cowboys play more than half their games on turf (home and some road games) it would certainly make sense for our scouts to target players who play best on turf. Assuming there is a tangible difference in how certain players perform on different surfaces.

The surface in Buffalo isn't grass, it's A-Turf Titan 50. It's an artificial surface similar to what is at AT&T

You are correct. I made a mistake counting Buff as a grass field. Thanks for the correction.
EDIT: I went back and fixed it in the OP. Thanks.

Why would teams need to do that? Dallas hasn't been a legitimate threat for nearly 30 years. I think that's a misperception thats been way overblown throughout the years.

This is a good thread man. We need to improve our performance on grass
It is not just the grass. The outdoor elements. Cold, Rain and Wind. Again we have been a very soft team.

That’s just how screwed up the Cowboys are that we’re having to talk about their struggles on grass fields. lol If Jerry is ever asked about it, he’ll go through a series of huhs and ums and say it’s not any grass, it’s just that we struggle on a certain type of Bermuda grass.

And there ya go, chaps, another excuse for 28 years of futility.
Another excuse is the refs hate us and are mean to us.
