The emotions of a real fan is up and down during the football season. During losing seasons, there's a whole lot of low points, with the occasional high of beating a team you didn't expect to beat. Fans of winning teams ride high most of the time, with the occasional downer that comes with a loss; some lower than others.
I am a die-hard fan and have been for a long time now. I've taken some losses very hard in the past, with the most recent being the home opener at the new stadium. Yesterdays loss was a low, but not that low.
You see, in this 16 game schedule, we're going to have some losses. I thought we'd be 11-5 prior to the season. I now believe that 11-5 wins this division. That requires both the Giants and Eagles to go 6-1 the rest of the way. I believe our team can reach that record if they're as good as I think they are. If they win the next two (no assumptions there), they need to finish up 3-2 in December (a wining record in December, how bold).
Once I saw that Washington won yesterday, I thought to myself, good now we can be focused for that game. At the same time, I did not feel good about going to Green Bay (Call me crazy, but the legend of Lambeau still stays on my mind even with last years victory). All we heard about was Romo's 13 game streak in November. To a certain degree, I'm glad that streak was ended. Now is the time to start a new run of significance. Let's get some momentum heading into and through December, and more importantly, the tournament as Parcells called it. It starts with Washington this week. This team says it can get better, now is the time for it to happen.
Yes, Williams needs to hold on to the dang ball. Yes, the line needs to block better. Yes, Garrett needs more balance (RUN THE BALL PLEASE!) in his play calling. Yes, we got banged up yesterday. But, if this is a real team, it can happen.
These last 7 games will continue the ride. I'm hoping we have no more lows this season. My gut tells me we'll have 2 during the regular season. I just hope they do not include any of our divisional opponents.
So Cowboy fans, enjoy the ride. You could be on the Browns, Raiders, or any ohter down teams ride, watching games that are meaningless hoping for a glimmer of hope. Instead, you have a team that is still in 1st place, still has good talent, and just might be able to do something special. I'm still staying on for the ride and believe something good is coming.
