The Cowboys Shouldn't Try to Avoid Anybody

I hear all this talk about the Cowboys needing to avoid the Packers and the Saints and it makes me sick. Listen winning a super bowl is very, very difficult. There's s reason it's been 15 years since we've been able to do it. However if you're gonna do it you gotta beat the best. If we can't beat the Packers we're not gonna win it anyway. The road to Indianapolis goes through them period.*You think the Cowboy players are scared of facing the Packers or Saints? Please. First of all there's absolutely no reason to fear the New Orleans Saints. In 2009 when the Saints were much better than they were this year the Cowboys went into their dome and beat them ending their dreams of an undefeated season. Last Thanksgiving we were a Roy Williams fumble away from beating them with 38 year old Jon Kitna at quarterback. I say bring it. You think the Packers were trying to avoid teams last year? No they had to face the top 3 teams in the NFC to get to the big dance. Why should we? We shouldn't.

How do we avoid a team in the playoffs? We don't get to choose who we play if we even get in.

First, how would we TRY to avoid anyone? We have to win as many games as we can to get into the playoffs, and we have no control over GB and NO.

Second, I think you're nuts if NO doesn't scare you.

All that said, you are right, GB (and NO) is going to be the team others have to go through, so we will just have to deal with it if and when we run into them. I don't think either is unstoppable, but it darn sure would take our best effort to win.

Lol pray tell how do you avoid someone in the playoffs? And yah you might hear fans saying that but have you heard anyone from the Cowboys orginization say this? ...........didn't think so.

The "avoid" stuff is just fodder for the media and the fans. The Cowboys will try to win every game and then deal with the next opponent. It'll be interesting to see if that last game at NY means anything to them in terms of playoff slotting.

We can't, but there's people on here that wish we could avoid Green Bay or New Orleans. That's what I don't like to hear. All that shows is you're scared you can't play that way or you'll get your *** kicked.

Don't worry how fans feel..that **** has no bearing on anything

I agree w you though. I'm definitely not afraid of NO, I think we are better than them. I'm not afraid of GB either, but that doesn't mean I think we will definitely beat them..but how could I logically feel that way. I definitely think we can play w them, which is why im not afraid.

if the season ends with GB and SF as the top seeds then I can see people hoping to end up in SF's bracket, otherwise it's likely we would have to beat both GB and NO just to get to the Superbowl,,, but there is no way to avoid both of them, at least one of those teams will be in the NFC Championship.

I can't speak for everyone, but I don't want to "avoid" the Packers. I'm always looking for the greater glory when it comes to the Cowboys.

I want to beat the Packers in GB for the NFC Championship. And then play and beat a high quality AFC opponent in the SB.

BUT I do see the sense in trying for the #3 seed. Why set up a more difficult path? No team purposely does that.

I'd just perfer beating GB in the NFC Championship on equal footing. Not in the divisonal round with them coming off a weeks rest.

Why should New Orleans scare me? They can't stop a nosebleed.

Regardless of what you think, we have a better chance of going farther in the playoffs the lesser talented teams we have to face. So while it would be more satisfying to advance having beaten N.O. or G.B., I'd just as soon take the greater percentages and hope another team gets real lucky and knocks NO and GB off for us.

Of course, nothing is a given. If another team can knock off NO or GB, then they may be playing well enough to knock us off as well. But I'd still like our odds better against a "hot" San Fran team then a Green Bay team this year.

GreenBay.. we SERIOUSLY want to avoid them. Unless it's a blizzard there and Rogers can't throw.. then .. game on.

Because they are 1st in the NFL in yards per game, 2nd in the NFL in points per game, 1st in the NFL in 3rd down conversion percentage (the only team over 50%), and they have the most balanced attack in football being 1st in passing yards and 8th in rushing yards.

Because us scoring points is only half of the equation. Stopping them is the other half, and that will be a huge challenge if we play them. The Saints give up 2.5 ppg more than Dallas does, but they score 8.5 ppg more than Dallas does.

Remember, I said "scary", not unbeatable - not the same thing. I'm not saying we can't play with them and beat them if we play well, but that offense should be damn scary for anyone paying attention and willing to be fair.

How do you go about avoiding them?

Sometimes, on the final week of the season, you can predict who you're going to face in the first round if you win or lose that last game.

I want us to win the Super Bowl. I think the Saints and Packers are better teams than this version of the Cowboys. Therefore, I want to avoid the Saints and Packers. I ain't proud.

The only way to avoid a team is to play them later and hope someone else knocks them off. A better seed helps. If we can get the 3 seed, that guarantees we won't see the Packers until the NFCC - the Saints too, if the Niners keep the bye. In that scenario, we only have to face one of them, period, which is also good. (The 2 seed is a little dicier - we might have to go through both teams in that scenario).

I'm eternally grateful to the Packers for taking down the Niners in the '95 playoffs. The Niners stomped us with Elvis Grbac during the regular season (their 3rd straight against us). We had the Pack's number. We avoided the Niners that year and won the SB.

It was an interesting time -- Dallas had the Packers number (7 Straight victories), San Fran had our number (3 Straight including the one you referenced) and the Packers had the 49ers number (not sure of the exact number but it had to be 4 or 5 there in the mid to late 90s).
