I've never been one to get after coaches in the extreme one way or another. They do not block, tackle, run, throw or do anything with the football. And in this game one cannot score without the ball or trapping the opponent where he shouldn't be with the ball. Coaches get much too much credit when things go well and people want them fired IMMEDIATELY if things don't go to suit their particular perspective. BOTH of these viewpoints are ludicrous.
What Garrett and his staff have done is allow, (and I say "allow" because no one actually promotes), a culture where it's OK to lose without giving your best effort. It the modern day League where mediocrity reigns and there are no dominant teams - you're going to lose. Heck, at this level, pretty much everyone can play. Parity is what the NFL sought and they have it. As a result, everyone loses and, more than once for the most part. There are teams however, where it is disgusting to lose in general and unacceptable to lose while giving a subpar effort. These Cowboys are the former.
The OL is not good - has been in decline ever since Leary couldn't be signed (Thanks, Salary Cap), and with T-Fred's illness, we're just not good. They do not play downhill either because they can't or won't because that requires more effort.
The Dak situation is bad and really not fixable. His arm simply isn't capable of winning in the League and that's a shame because he's a fine young man and the game needs more like him if all he was graded on was character and work ethic. But, we all know how far that matrix takes you in professional sports. He simply doesn't have the physical ability to play beyond the NCAA level and consistently win.
I don't know what's up with Zeke beyond the absence of gaping holes in the line to run through but he looks slow and sluggish. Perhaps last year's circus took some of his focus and desire but, guys, he's not running with anywhere near the explosion once witnessed.
The Defense is supposedly a bright spot in all this but there are a lot of goofballs and headcases on that side of the ball and I don't know how long they'll continue playing hard when the Offense can't outscore a Cub Scout Den.
The culmination of these on-field circumstances can and should be laid squarely on Garret's doorstep. It is time for a massive culture shift in Dallas.
