Here’s a blatantly obvious “must fix” for this team: GETTING OFF TO A BETTER START, as opposed to falling behind double digits before seemingly waking up. What evidence do we have of the need for a faster start?

Well, the great Bob Sturm wrote an article this week in THE ATHLETIC called “The Morning After: After Ominous Cowboys Loss, Familiar Feelings of Mediocrity Creep In”. (I would link it but it’s a paid site) Sturm points out in the article how bad this team’s starts have been in their four losses, especially against good teams, and how this bad habit of needing to rally from behind every game is killing this team.

    • The Saints jumped out to a halftime lead of 9-3
    • The Packers jumped on them for a 31-3 lead
    • The Jets amazingly were up 21-3 late in the first half
    • The Vikings had a 14-0 lead midway through the second quarter
Adding up those cumulative scores in those games created an opponent lead of 75-9 before the Cowboys’ could finally wake up and rally. Wow. 75-9. Even with a Cowboys rally, they lost all four of those games.

If this team is ever going to turn this thing around, one simple fix for them is to stop with the horrible starts. Looking unprepared out of the gate is not a sign of a team that’s going anywhere. Let’s hope that is fixed soon or 2019 will become another wasted season.

Three of those were blue jersey games. You can't fix a curse. ;)

Instead of setting the tone from the first snap(run up the middle for 2 yard gain) how about we throw a deep bomb to Gallup for ***** n giggles just once

Its seems like we start every game with a 2yard run up the middle followed by a short 5 yard pass followed by another run up the middle
I’ve always liked the old saying, “Fortune favors the bold.” Jerry has made a fortune by following that belief. If only he could find a HC that believed that.

Here are the halftime scores of all of the games and first quarter for each as well (Dallas score is showing first):

Giants 21-7 (1st: 7-7) - win
Commanders 14-7 (1st: 0-0) - win
Dolphins 10-6 (1st: 10-3) - win
Saints 3-9 (1st: 3-0) - loss
Packers 0-17 (1st: 0-14) - loss
Jets 6-21 (1st: 0-7) - loss
Eagles 27-7 (1st: 14-7) - win
Giants 13-12 (1st: 3-3) - win
Vikings 14-17 (1st: 0-14) - loss

These pathetic starts to games should have had Garrett canned on the bye week - thank God for the NFCE opponents and their lack of "good"...the Packers game is the only game that should have (could have) been a loss...and yet, we are tied for the pathetic division lead temporarily....ironically, the eagles should lose this week and Dallas could win against a hapless lions team but Dallas does find a way to lose to schlubs

First half prediction?

Lions 10, Dallas 6

I wonder if it's because Garrett's gameplan is the same to start every game. Teams know how to go up big on it.

I would hope anyway, that our plan going into any game is to run the ball and play keep away, 2017 style.

Difficult to do when you are down so soon.

Almost makes you think the other team realizes that and maybe makes an effort to not let us do what we want to do. NFL teams dont do things like that do they??

It's supposed to be the responsibility of the OC to come up with 10-15, or so, scripted plays to spark the offense in the early 1st quarter. That has not been forthcoming to the extent of having any positive results. That must be improved upon for the Cowboys to establish anything resembling a sufficient degree of momentum in the early stages of games. Whether it's Moore, Garrett or both at fault, it's an ongoing problem that desperately needs to be resolved.

What’s funny is it’s not the offense not just moving the ball, or the defense giving up plays. It’s a cumulative effort all around. It’s coaching folks. Nothing else to blame for it when they prove they are good in the latter quarters.
