The deadline is September 4th which is Saturday. In truth, I would start tonight as soon as the final gun sounds. If there are players we want to sneak back onto the Practice Squad, I would get them on the waiver wire now, so we can accomplish that faster.

I would prefer to be the first team to start the dump process so that other teams are more focused on their own cuts than they are on ours.

I believe this year will be tougher than most we have ever had. Guys who will not make this roster, will make someone else's Count on that.

totaly agree with you but doesnt the cowboys wait to post their list the last day? Which makes it tough to sign players.

and i hope the cowboys get terrell hudgins signed to practice squad,, maybe sicko te too; so far, are some of the players i like;

Would it make a different when we cut guys? They can be picked off the practice squad anyway.

can't wait to see if Young stays or goes on IR

or Bright goes

I hate losing the kid

there should be some interesting cuts from our team

and others

I always forget that drafted guys get priority in cutdowns.

All the scouting, bonus money, etc. that goes into a draft pick, those guys tend to win out unless an undrafted guy is completely head and shoulders above.

There will be a head scratcher or two on the 53, like Jamar Wall or someone.

All I have to do to prove my point is recite "Stanback, Stanback, Stanback" over and over until I'm blue in the face.

I can't see us letting Bright go. I do think Young to IR will happen.

I hope they keep Young on the active roster so he can get some experience this year. I really think he can make a push for a starting RT job next year if he stays off of IR this year.

I also hope they keep Bright over Holland.

I agree. Both Young and Bright should be on the roster. Holland hasn't showed me anything.

I like the potential of Young as well. He could very well be the future at RT, but I think this year, putting him on IR is the right call. There are a handful of players who are going to get released but will be picked up by other teams. I'd hate to see a guy like McCann or Church leave because we kept Young off of IR.

Don't teams have to wait until 24 hours after the cutdown deadline to set their practice squad roster? That seems to be the fairest way of doing it, for all the teams.

I'm thinking that we may pick up at least one player from someone else's cuts.

Three or four guys cut on defense can play elsewhere.

On offense I'm not so sure we have any excess talent that will be eagerly gobbed up. Hurd..maybe but he's more a special teamer than anything.

You don't (IMO) hold onto draft picks because they were draft picks and you don't want to lose face.

They are draft picks to begin with because of the potential seen in them. So it only makes sense to give that potential time to be realized. Its not about GM's being reluctant to admit a mistake nearly as much as people make it out to be (IMO).

On Stanback, I have no problem with how long he stuck in Dallas. He was drafted as a project, they knew it would take time. That time was delayed because he was injured multiple times.

I get that some people didn't like him from the start or because he was often injured. And in the end it sure looks like he'll have no NFL career of significance if at all. But I don't buy for a second anyone claiming "they knew" he'd be a failure from the start. Just like "they knew" holding onto Romo when he was nothing was the right thing to do.

I have no problem giving draft picks the benefit of the doubt (within reason). It's why they were drafted.
