The "Dak Prescott" phenomenon

This is bleacher report so take it with a grain of salt. I just got a kick out of the Prescott reference. If true, it's bad news for the rest of the league.....
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There’s no guarantee the New England Patriots will trade Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason. But it appears at least a few teams will try their best to pry the 25-year-old quarterback out of Foxboro.

Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman wrote Wednesday three NFL executives “believe some team is going to make the New England Patriots an offer for Jimmy Garoppolo they cannot refuse.”

“I want to be clear about what I’m being told: (The executives) believe several teams are preparing to make blockbuster offers for Garoppolo. I’m not saying it will happen. I’m saying this is the belief of some around football. They think a draft shakeup is coming and that it will involve Garoppolo.

“The increasingly popular view among some in the league is that Garoppolo can transform a franchise almost overnight and is worth a first-round pick.

“There’s a desperation that’s sweeping the league when it comes to finding a quarterback, greater than I’ve seen in a long time. One front-office executive called it the Dak Prescott Phenomenon.”

This report certainly is not surprising. Patriots starting quarterback Tom Brady plans to play for at least another few seasons, and with how well Brady performed in 2016, he’s in no danger of losing his job to the younger Garoppolo.

So it’s easy to envision New England dealing Garoppolo — who has one season remaining on his rookie contract — rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2018. The Patriots are sure to hear plenty of offers for the third-year pro once the league year opens March 9, as close to a dozen teams around the NFL have question marks at the quarterback position.

Good luck to them trying to find another Dak Prescott. It's not like there is a record breaking rookie QB out there every year that people just haven't noticed. He was special and has rare intangibles. Maybe leadership, smarts and work ethic are focused on a little more now... but that isn't going to give the QB's in the draft any more of those qualities than they already had.

Finding those traits is extremely difficult.

Any chance you have the link to that article?

Exactly, Dak had the intangibles to play like a veteran as a rookie in a way no rookie has ever done. And on top of that he came into a situation with some of the best offensive players in the league surrounding him, plus good coaching, plus Romo coaching him.

My reaction to the article is that if this is true, it means Jerry is going to raise the trade price for Romo - and get it.

If we didn't have Prescott and Romo didn't recover from his latest injury I would trade away our 1st round Jimmy Garoppolo. I don't see how that's such a stupid thing to do.
Is he really a greater risk of not being successful than some of these QB's that will get drafted in the first round year after year?

The closer to the draft we get the more people like to pretend the draft isn't a huge gamble.

That's the debate I've been seeing/hearing regarding Cleveland. Taking Watson or Garoppolo.

I think the smarter business decision is to take Watson and get him with the rookie wage scale and the 5th year option. Although Garoppolo may be more "NFL ready" that doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things especially if he is going to Cleveland.

Garoppolo just screams oswieler 2.0 to me.

Teams are doomed to fail if they are hoping to get another Dak Prescott. Catching lightning in a bottle doesn't happen very often. As far as Jimmy G is concerned I have no idea how he will play outside the NE system, where seemingly everyone does well.

If he's so good why would NE let him go for a 1st round pick?

Brady is going to be 40

I wouldn't deal with NE because they always seem to get the best end of the deal.

I think Belichick is going to bow out when Brady retires so he's going to get as much for Garoppolo now as he can. This is Garoppolo's last year under contract. All Belichick cares about is stocking the team for a couple more years until he and Brady check out.....
