Tom Landry is the all time greatest coach on opening day in NFL History. His opening day record is 22-6-1, and from 1965 to 1981, 17 straight years, his Cowboys teams won their opener. He was 11-4-1 at home in openers, 11-2 on the road. Those two losses came in his last 2 years in the NFL.

Jimmy Johnson was 3-2 on opening days. 2-0 at home, 1-2 on the road.

Barry Switzer
was 3-1 all on the road.

Chan Gailey was 2-0. 1-0 at home, 1-0 on the road.

Dave Campo was 0-3. :banghead: 0-2 at home,0-1 on the road.

Bill Parcells
was 1-3. 0-1 at home, 1-2 on the road.

The Cowboys overall record is 31-15-1. 14-7-1 at home, 17-8 on the road.

We have faced the Giants 4 times on opening day. 1965, 1966, 1986, and 1995. We are 4-0 in those games. 3-0 at home in these games, 1-0 on the road.

When I look at his 11 wins at home and then see that we've only won 3 times in home openers since he left, 1990, 1992, & 1998, it makes me miss him that much more. We haven't won a home opener since 1998. Three of Tom's 4 losses at home in openers came before this team was any good. 1960, 1963, & 1964. He lost only one other time in a home opener, that was 1981, and it ended 17 straight years of winning the opening game of the season.

He was the best.

Ok Hos... did you have to specify where all 3 losses were.... I would been ok with 0-3. Cut and dry. Short and sweet. :laugh2:

If we lose tomorrow night it's your fault for giving us this factoid.

I hope this game is a duplicate of the 35-0 spanking the Cowboys gave the giants in 1995, Emmitt running for a 60 yard touchdown on the game's first play, Julius needs to take note.

Surprised no one mentioned the 86 opener. That was a classic.
Still have it on tape. It was Walker's first game with us. Alot of anticipation.
Dorsett took a screen for a long TD but sprained his ankle. 2nd half was Walker on his own. After a long pass from White to Hill, Walker takes a draw from the 6 yard line in for the go ahead TD with under a minute to go.

I'll never forget that young defensive coordinator for the giants. sitting on the bench with his head down in tears, obviously inconsolible.

Anybody remember his name.....Belisomething.....Its on the tip of my tounge.

Had Danny White not been hurt in the rematch Dallas would've likely won hte division and been a contender in the playoffs, they were 6-2 just like the Giants before the injury.

Just goes to show you that Landry> Parcells/ Bellicheck combination.
