This may have more to do with his partner at the CB position. Folks weren't going to throw at Diggs anymore and they stopped throwing at Gilmore a long time ago.

Bland is getting opportunities because that is where the ball is being thrown, rather erratically, at times.

It's a tribute to his performance that he is taking advantage of the situation. He is also a very good tackler. When your weakest link in the secondary is leading in INT's, then you have a very opportunistic defense. I'm not saying Bland is weak, per se. I'm saying we have a secondary that is performing very well.
teams are throwing at gilmore. last year, sure he was benefiting off diggs reputation

The crazy thing about DaRon is that he isn’t getting tipped balls or lame duck throws in his lap. He is literally jumping and timing routes and even ripping balls from receivers hands. He’s a pro bowler in waiting IMO, and we got him in the stinking 5th…score
Quinn defenses seem to excel at finding corners like him late in the draft. Richard Sherman also was a fifth-round pick.

Bland is going to have a break out party, he has already shown his value to this defense, now his presence makes this defense even better,,, let us all take a moment and think about that.

DB makes this secondary faster and more physical, lets think about that for a brief moment.

Doran Bland has 8, count 'em eight interceptions since last year. I'd say that's pretty phenomenal for a back up.

Does anyone else think that he and Gilmore actually make a really great duo? That first game was understandable, at least from my perspective. We had so many injuries to our best starters, on such short notice, it just wasn't feasible to win in that game. It's still the NFL. And I still think the Cardinals are a good team.

I just have this feeling that Doran Bland and Gilmore play a factor in Sunday's game, and having those two should really help us against the Niners.
Hes not a backup. LOL

He was our starting slot corner. You were told over and over that he would do well out there.

It is no surprise at all.

BWAAAAAA!!! As if he has been sitting on the bench and just got his chance. LOL

He lead the team in picks last year as our starting slot corner.

Definitely picked up right where he left off last year. Does his own Trevon Diggs impersonation of ball hawking awareness to include the game changing pick sixes.

Incredible late round find by McClay and team.

Outstanding development of his skillset and proper utilization in his scheme by DQ.

How is it you think he's a backup at all??

you do realize slot corner is a starting position?

I mean just because he's not on the outside doesn't make him a backup, the dudes in on a regular basis, he doesn't come in because of injury, backups are rotational players that only come in to spell the starters....
I think you have it in your mind a little backwards but if you wanted to say he's been pretty phenomenal for a late round pick that it came out of left field how good he was, that's fine....
we got dudes like that all over the NFL though I mean less expectations make bigger headlines when they blow up big you know like Kurt Warner and Tony Romo and guy like Brock Purdy going last in the draft... I mean but yeah it's great fine but he's not a backup so let's understand that he his not a backup.

By the way we have some guys on the roster right now that are gonna have similar careers they are backups but once they find their way to the starting lineup I believe that Bell and Thomas have something and we gotta find a way to keep them that's the great part of drafting well and building a really good team that's deep yes you have some better players waiting in the wings but that's also a problem because you might lose them because they're not gonna wait around for you to make them starters when their contracts are up...

I can't remember exactly at what point last year that I had to do a double take on him, but Bland has really been a find. I don't know who gets the credit, but it's well-earned. I had never heard of him until he was drafted. And, truthfully, I figured he would be a JAG. Far from it.

I bet his draft status has already changed if there was a do-over.

Even before then, many saw him coming. He always looked the part. I won't pretend to be amongst those who forecasted his greatness, but he made it clear quickly. Overshown would've had a similar trajectory this year imo.

Lover Overshawn. If he can recover from the injury the kid is a star in the making. That much was obvious even from the little we saw of him.

Bland has been the biggest (pleasant) surprise of the season thus far. The Cowboys were proclaimed dead (by some) after Diggs' season-ending injury; and I think its effect on the team's psyche that week was the reason behind the collapse in morale & totally-unexpected loss to the Cards. And what? This kid steps up to replace Diggs, playing out of his mind, at an All-Pro level. Throwing at either of our corners should give opposing QBs a bit of pause.
I’m not surprised in the least, he led the team with 5 INT’s as a rookie. He was a good player last year and has picked up where he left off.
