I’m starting to like DE and it would be nice to have the baddest pass rusher in the draft. Whose the guy? Payne, Rousseau?

Or at least keep it in the front 7 is Parsons or Collins out of the question?

Seems to me edge rusher is deeper than meaningful LB’s in this draft.

We are 1 injury away from heavily relying on Basham/Armstrong/Anae to “go to work”

agree but at least that would require an injury . At DT we have slop right now. I’m not opposed to taking a DE but the best DE will not be successful if the run game can’t be stopped and if the QB has little pressure up the middle and can just step up

Rousseau isn't even the best DE from Miami. Phillips is the best DE in this class. But 10 might be too rich for him. If we traded down into the late teens or early 20s, picked up another 2nd or 3rd round pick, I would be fine with Phillips there.

Taking Paye at 10 is nauseating.

I was team Rousseau, but his workouts just don't say 1st round pick at all.

Jaelen Phillips has DeMarcus Ware's game and Sean Lee's injury history. Super high-variance pick.

I'd take Phillips in a trade down to end of 1st or take him in 2nd if he's there.

agree 100% with this

Phillips is the best in this class. Trade down into the teens/20's and take the next JJ Watt.
Tryon, Ossai, Basham are guys to consider in rd 2.
Turner and Perkins are early mid rd guys I dig.
Later mid rd guys I like are Elerson and Rumph (he's my pet sleeper)

This is why I put Paye ahead of the other Edge guys. I actually think he could be pretty good inside on passing downs.
His draft profile mentioned it and I was watching his highlights and Michigan used him that way effectively. We've missed that since Irving retired. Maybe Jeremiah had some information with his mock draft.

If I have this right, the Cowboys have Gregory, Lawrence, Armstrong, Basham, Ron'Dell Carter, Ladarius Hamilton, Breeland Speaks and Anae at DE right now. Plus, the can use Urban and Watkins on the end in some situations. I see the need for depth, but with Gregory and Lawrence starting, Basham, Armstrong and Anae rotating in, I see a need to improve in the rotation, but not an urgent need for a starter. I would not spend a first round pick this year on DE, not when we have the DTs we have. To solve the pass rush we need a DT who pushes the pocket and forces the QB out of the pocket where Gregory and Lawrence can make a play.

Looking at the roster, the biggest needs are clearly CB, DT, LB and OL. DE is a secondary need. And this isn't a good draft for DEs.
