The December Surge

The Cowboys don't need to be elite until December.

By "December", I mean the last group of games, say the last 5. The 17 game schedule has moved the usual December games so they begin at the middle of December ending at the middle of January.

What is the most realistic time to get all their injured players back?

When will we see both starting DE's play together? When will Cooper, Lamb, Gallup, and Wilson all be healthy at the same time? When will the interior of the defensive line be manned by a rotation of Gallimore, Hill, Osa, and Urban? When will the offensive line be whole again?

When will we actually see the Dallas Cowboys play? All we've seen so far are abbreviated versions of this team. Every game so far has been minus a group of starters, many of them former Pro Bowlers.

After the Thanksgiving game, the Cowboys are, again, deprived of their "2nd bye", the ten day period until their next game. They will play back to back Thursday games before they get their "long week."

So between the Saints game and their first encounter with the Washington Unnamed, they will have a ten day period which would be a perfect time to integrate impact talent from the injured list. This would give them a five week period with five games to build momentum through the addition of fresh players capable of contributing.

A 17 game regular season is a long one and I wouldn't doubt if this had something to do with the status of injured players. It would be a great way to hold back a group of players keeping them fresh until the right time. Obviously, there are some genuinely injured players. However, could some of them have played earlier? I tend to think a few of them could.

It's all about momentum and the proper timing. I think it's the last five games that determine the Cowboys postseason results. It's possible that this could coincide with a Cowboys team being as healthy as it has been all season long. In which case...December, January, and February could be the most special three month period we have witnessed since the early 90's.

“Surge”.
Definition:
a sudden powerful forward or upward movement, especially by a crowd or by a natural force such as the waves or tide.

2. (of a crowd or a natural force) move suddenly and powerfully forward or upward

Dallas is not surging according to either of these definitions. We, like the Bills and maybe the Rams and Titans, are hitting a deep trough. Mid season collapse if you will. If any of these teams want to make some noise in the playoffs (if they make it, NFL seems unpredictable this year with really no super dominant team), they need to clean it up. Dallas the most out of the teams listed due to lack of identity and sudden regression with no clear answer or resolve as to how to fix the issue. With time wasting away, not sure we get them fixed in time of the Eagles and WFT resurgence…

Lol. Mid season collapse. Just stop dude. We are more injured than any of the teams you listed. Tyron is back Thursday. With more help coming in against the saints. Please stop. When this team makes the playoffs. I better not see you posting at all.

Please. I will be here if they make it to the playoffs. I’d like nothing better than to be proven wrong, but Dallas has let me down 2 times in a very short amount of time since the bye. There are cracks showing and fans ignoring those cracks are going to be the ones drowning when the dam breaks. Just my 2 cents. We will see.

You always say the dam is breaking. Any loss and it’s the end of the world. We’re 7-3. Just stop already. If we collapse here and don’t make the playoffs not only would I be insanely angry but McCarthy better be let go immediately

Always fun to read the resident freak-out artist of the board.
I'm glad you're still around. Did you have a leave of absence for a minute?

I have been here actually. I’ve been rather quiet, but here and supporting the team. The Bucs loss was ok and I saw potential, hence why I wasn’t upset. However, Broncos game showed severe cracks hidden behind the paint on the dam wall and the Chiefs continued to chip and peel at that paint to reveal more cracks. I’m afraid the Broncos truly unveiled a blueprint (it’s just that Falcons didn’t have the personnel to utilize it). We will see. I only take a leave of absence during the off-season though. Any other time, I am here.

Right on homie. I've backed off a bit myself.
Good to see you still around and kickin'.

I never said they were surging now. I'm saying that they could potentially surge in the middle of December and it would be perfect timing, building the momentum going into the playoffs.

Since 2000, Super Bowl teams have won 74.4% of their last four games.

Since 1980 Super Bowl teams went 3-1 or 4-0 in their last four games 72.5% of the time. They went 1-3 only 5% of the time.

The Cowboys played in 5 Super Bowls in the 70's. The combined record of their last four games was 19-1. In 1975 they lost to the eventual division champion Cardinals. however, the Cowboys would be the wildcard team that year and make it to the Super Bowl.

The #1 determinant of how the Cowboys perform in December is going to be health. They need to get some guys back.. They need all those missing defensive linemen back.. They REALLY need Tyron Smith back.. they need Zeke to take about a month off (which he will never do.) The silver lining of his Covid "issue" is that it will give Amari Cooper two weeks to heal up. Tank back, Gregory back, Gallimore back, Jarwin back, Cooper and Lamb back.. Let's field our actual team and then let's talk..
