The decline of the Cowboys Offense

I fully expected the offense to actually be better this year, and even though it will be better with Romo back, I'm not really convinced that they were all that productive in the first two games of the season when Romo was playing.

I was an advocate of signing McCoy or Moore, but bought a pack of koolaid when the team reported that Weeden was the most progressed player. That isn't what I saw on the field, which makes me question the front office and their ability to recognize talent. Just as they have underutilized players like Beasley and Escobar.

The top concerns for this offense in 2016 will be a backup QB, RB, RT, and 2nd WR.

I don't think we need to or should draft a quarterback high. It's still too early for that, and there is nothing to suggest a rookie quarterback could have won with this team either. We still need to get Romo to the promised land. Go out there and sign a competent QB who can move the chains and do so early in the offseason not into the season. There is even some thought that maybe Cassel with time to actually learn the offense and gain a repertoire with these players could be that backup, but I wouldn't bank on it.

We probably do need to do something at running back. I've suggested that three of our top 4 picks next year should be on defense, but I think one of those picks should be on offense, and it should be a running back.

I think we need to do something at right tackle, and I'm hoping we already have with Chaz Green.

The issue in my mind is what to do at wide receiver, because I don't trust Williams.

The following players will be free agents next year pending any re-signings or retirements.

Anquan Boldin
Malcolm Floyd
Percy Harvin
Michael Crabtree
Alshon Jeffery

I think any of these guys would be upgrades over Williams, though I know there will be pushback on that.

I'd go ahead and trade Williams for whatever we can get for him. Maybe a cornerback or a safety.

We utilize Beasley plenty. If a qb throws 30-40 passes a game. Dez will get like 8-10 targets, witten will get 8-10 twill will get 3-4, the rb will get 4 check downs, beasley will get 4-5. Escobar and street will get 1 a piece.

There you have it. Only 1 ball to go around.

I think you misunderstand a bit.

I'm not saying Beasley should get 15 targets a game. I am saying however that they should make getting him the ball a platform of the offense and there shouldn't be stretches where he isn't targeted at all. Even with no Dez, Beasley has a total of 42 targets this year. We've been entirely too quick to checkdown.

I like the fact that you're concentrating on number 2 wr because I think it's the biggest need. The one thing about the Romo and Dez injury, is that it showed what the remaining players were made of. No more hiding behind the superstars, and with that Williams and Weeden didn't answer the bell. If you "need" others to be in place for you to be effective then you shouldn't be a number 2.

When half your OL, Dez, Romo are all hurt what did you think. First two games we had injuries. Dez was hurt in first game that leaves single coverage. With everybody back they will get rolling. Romo was the one we couldn't afford to lose, he changes the way defenses play us. We scored at will until Atlanta figured it out then every team did the same. Romo would eat those defense Weeden and Cassel had

Two games, one and one-half of which was without Dez, does not make an entire season... The offense didn't really start the season clicking on all cylinders in those first 2 games, but I think what we did see from them gave reason to be optimistic about the offense going forward... I mean Lance Dunbar was on pace for a Pro Bowl season, that was an entirely new wrinkle that nobody was expecting, too bad it didn't last long... I don't think the offense would struggle to put up points when Romo is playing...

I think Dez needs another guy that can demand attention. I think we need to draft a young stud at wr. Look at the Steelers, they have 2 prime time wrs, it's not even fair sometimes.

It's important to actually read what people said. I didn't say it made an entire season. I said that it will improve with the return of Romo, but I simply question whether that will be enough to put this team over the top. There is no more Dunbar this year, and Dunbar's abilities were of no surprise to me. I've been pushing for Dunbar for a long time.

You're absolutely right. The problem though is timing. Can we bring in a rookie stud WR and expect him to deliver in Romo's window? Can we afford to invest draft picks in the WR Corps instead of the secondary?

If the defensive line can turn it on when Romo returns, I might suggest that getting a new WR and RB could become our priorities in 2016.

The performance of the entire offense suffers when Romo is absent. I think their improvement will be noticeable in the weeks that lie ahead. The entire offense appeared to falter when Weeden and Cassel took over. Even the first two games weren't representative of what this team can do when sufficiently healthy. The OL just wasn't clicking.

This guy needs 20 years of data before he starts forming a conclusion.

I saw ESPN say Romo needs to not be a hero in this game. Partially true, he still needs to play smart, but this game is absolutely a must win, pretty much every game going forward is a must win, but if you lose the first game back you will definitely lose the team.

Romo needs to win the game but not get hurt, drive the bus to victory !!!!!
