Have we considered this? A lot of people are calling for Wade's head here after the defensive performance in the last few games. Believe me, I think the guy is an awful head coach and I'll gladly help him pack his bags when he gets canned, so this isn't me defending him, but maybe this defense just SUCKS? Not the scheme..the players. They might just freaking S-U-C-K.
Bill Parcells, Wade Phillips and Mike Zimmer - three great (although I use this term loosely with Zimmer) defensive coaches who haven't been able to get these idiots to play well. No matter which coach is calling the shots, it's been the same thing - stupid penalties, boneheaded coverage breakdowns, late-game collapses.
Maybe it shouldn't really surprise us.
The defensive line has no depth. Marcus Spears is just a guy, Igor Olshansky is a solid player but at the end of the day he's just a guy too. He's not Chris Canty. Jay Ratliff is a great football player but he hurts in the run game as much as he helps our pass rush by getting pushed around at the nose tackle spot. Junior Siavii is useless.
The Linebackers - Ware is elite, Bradie James is a solid player, Carpenter is garbage, Brooking is old, Spencer is on the back of a milk box under the "MISSING" title with Vernon Gholston.
The Secondary - Ken Hamlin is just a name. He adds nothing to the defense. Gerald Sensabaugh is a solid player, usually won't lose you a game but won't win you one either. Terence Newman is just a name, living off his reputation. Scandrick and Jenkins (especially Jenkins) show a flash of brilliance followed by three horrible, bonehead plays.
The problem is the players. Cut the dead weight.
