The Differences Between Surtain and Horn

I personally wouldn’t because I dont think a corner makes us any better one way or the other but with the Cowboys thought process I think they do.

The #1 defender in this draft I think is Jaelen Phillips.. I just don’t know what his medical is. If team doctors think he’s fine going forward then he’s the steal of the draft.
there's also the question of his interest in football because of his interest in music

If he hasn’t peaked he’s close to it.

His floor is high and ceiling is low.
Horn is slightly more gifted from an athletic standpoint. And I’m happy to get either player. But to be honest unless your drafting Pitts or Sewell who are expected to be All Pro players, we may need to be satisfied with just getting a really good player at 10.

I agree because Surtain has had coaching as good as the NFL, Horn hasn't. Can Horn retain his physicality and not catch too many flags? Because he will most definitely be a ref target because of his rep for contact.

However, one of the things this D needs is an injection of physicality and blue collar play. Horn would better bring that than Surtain.

Where does this notion of Horn being physical come from. One of the criticisms Bruglar has mentioned and can be confirmed on tape is that he's not always the most willing tackler. And, yes, he's "physical" in the sense he's grabby but I don't exactly see that as a quality.

On what basis? Technique, ball production, TD’s given up, penalties?

I don't know why they might consider him better. I just don't think we can say it's because of relationships. That's a reach.

Yeah, not saying he’s Bobby. He’s a good player and worthy of a top 15 pick. I’m just saying that right now Surtain is the better player. I think the difference is Byron Jones at his best vs Janoris Jenkins.

FYI I listened to Locked On Cowboys yesterday and they said Surtain is better than Jeff O coming out.
Yes

Not for us he isn't.

He's physical from a coverage viewpoint, not post catch. I do not see it as a strong point unless he gets that under better control at the next level.

If he's got to use his hands too much playing in the SEC East, what's he going to do in the NFL?

I feel like our fan base should go watch a few Seattle games with the Legion of Boom. I think it might make it easier to see and understand what Quinn might well be looking for from a CB. I don't know for sure but maybe this helps.

Yes.

But I'm not a fan of drafting a CB in the first round at all, to be honest.

How is Horn better for us? Surtain has better technique, commits no or close to no penalties, and fewer TD’s. Horn is a penalty machine.

I’d prefer to go OL in one and CB/DE in 2-3.

It's all scheme. He fits the Seattle Scheme much better. Both guys are man to man players, not really Zone corners but Horn's short area quickness and long speed are better. He has longer arms, which helps and he is much more aggressive in coverage. You need your CBs to be very physical, very aggressive in that scheme. They are not boundary CBs or man to man all over the field CBs. In truth, great 40 speed isn't really a necessity but great agility, physical aggressive hard nosed play is. I don't really disagree with those who say that Surtain is the most polished, best technique CB in the draft, I think that's probably right but, that's not what we need in this scheme. We don't need a guy who doesn't get called for contract. That guy will get eaten up in this scheme. Watch Seattles Legion of Boom. Those guys always played on the edge of dirty. Physical all the way down the field. We need the other guy. Horn is the best Press Man Cover in this draft and I don't think there is really and question of that.

He fits better, the strengths that Surtain has are not going to really be of great use to us in the Seattle scheme. He is more valuable in a scheme where he is used to lock up on a WR and try and take him out of the game. Seattle Defense does not play that way. Honestly, I would rather see us pass on both CBs and draft Tyson Campbell later in the draft. I think Diggs is a number one type CB and this Campbell kid, he can play Corner, Safety and is a hell of a Special Teams guy. He's exceptional in the run game. I'd rather see us do that honestly.

1) Surtain came out of the womb being coached by an NFL CB. Horn’s dad was a WR.

2) Surtain got better coaching at Alabama than Horn did at SC.

3) Every day in practice since 2018 Surtain has gone against Ridley, Ruggs, Juedy, Smith and Waddle

4) Surtain is much more disciplined and has better technique.

5) Horn is a slightly better athlete. 4.39 vs 4.42, 41.5 vert vs 39, 133 broad jump vs 131.

6) Horn is very grabby and gets flagged for penalties way too much.

If what Broaddus says is true (coaches prefer Horn, scouts prefer) it is only because of the Quinn/Muschamp relationship and MM coached Joe Horn. Coach former player relationship didn’t work out so well with Bobby Carpenter.

The more I learn about Horn the more I like him. I would have no problem taking either one at 10.

LOL...............your comments are so far bizarre ridiculous I just cant help myself continuing to laugh in your face.

Going from our current corner to Patrick Surtain wont improve our defense? The only comment more laughable then that is the 2nd one you made saying Jaelen Phillips is the #1 defender in this draft.

Phillips isnt even considered the #1 player at his own position.
