The difficult thing about winning with defense

So many questionable calls are made against defenses because of the league's desire to protect quarterbacks and increase safety. (I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, just looking at the effect of it.)

I'm rewatching the Tampa game right now just before halftime, and the Bucs moved quickly down the field with the help of two of those questionable calls against Dallas: roughing the quarterback on Gregory (supposedly for lifting and bringing his weight down on Winston) and the hitting a defenseless receiver penalty on Woods (where he blast Humphries in the shoulder). All it takes is a couple of those calls and an offense gets an extra 30 yards.

It's amazing we can win any game. Cowboys ganes are way over-officiated in favor of the opponent. Combine that with our clunk of an offense and it's amazing the D holds up as long as it does in any game.

Just got to the delay of game called on DeMarcus Lawrence. They called it because of "abrupt movement" by Lawrence, which isn't a call you see. There's a thread that mentions that Lawrence said he was told by an official that it was a neutral zone infraction, which it would have been if the officials both missed the clear false start on the tight end and the delay of game.

Helping a good offense with calls like that puts a lot of pressure on a defense, especially one not getting a whole lot of help from its offense.

The defense has made this season and it's not debatable. It will not be enough when the cards are down though.

You can win with just your defense when playing trash teams like Tampa.

But Tampa aint in the playoffs, so there in lies the problem...…...cant beat a team like Seattle with just your defense.

The problem with winning with defense is that it only works if your defense is near-perfect. Your defense is only as strong as your weakest link. Any lapses or breakdowns/gaps on ANY given play, and you could be toast.

Whereas on offense, if one player or tactic isn't working, the offense still has a plethora of other weapons to go to.
