The title of this thread sounds so wrong.

Yes, I agree. It's an unfortunate choice in abbreviations. Scrolling through all the posts, I was beginning to worry that I was the only one who thought that.

Thanks for noticing it first! :lmao2:

We only have 6 draft picks. We still could use significant upgrades at S, SLB, OLB, 2OL, and DT. We need depth all along the roster. OL, DL, RB, S, LB, WR, and a 3rd TE.

There is nothing bad about signing guys that could contribute to this team. We need to scout well and find guys that can help.

They restructured everyone who they were 100% sure they were going to keep. If they were just going to cute Livings on June 1st they should have just done it now.

My guess on Livings is that they will bring him into training camp and if he is beat for the starting job they will cut him.

For Free, they will keep him in training camp and see if Parnell or a rookie can beat him. If not they'll hopefully either ask him to take a paycut or sign a veteran. Or they'll be stupid like with newman and actually pay him way too much money so there won't be a hole...

The problem with this plan is if Free gets injured in camp and you have not negotiated a more appropriate salary then you are stuck with his $10M cap hit for the year for a player who you don't believe is substantially better than a younger player who is a superior athlete and playing on a much, much cheaper deal. The only reason you would bring Free into camp is to showcase him to the league for a trade because there is little reason to expect him to turn himself around after two years of struggling. At this point he is a marginal starter at RT but that is not enough to justify a $8M salary.

The only problem I can see with filling roster holes through free agency as soon as possible is the salary cap issue.

Other than that, it's always best to head into the Draft with as few needs as possible. That allows you to draft simply for best player available.

That's true. For Free they will probably cut him if they draft a replacement, and ask him to take a paycut if they don't.

It's very clear by keeping him this long that they don't have much faith in Parnell. Callahans quotes from late last season gave me that impression as well. Not that they don't think Parnell has a chance, but they clearly think he would have to improve quite a bit in training camp to go with him.
