The Draft and 40 times

Michael Irvin ran a 4.52 at the combine.
Emmitt Smith ran a 4.55 at the combine.

Speed is nice, but greatness comes in all sizes and speeds.
I want a RB who runs great routes, catches the ball with his hands, and has produced big time in college.
I want a RB with vision who sees the guy behind the guy trying to tackle him, a guy who makes defenders miss, and gets more than what was blocked for him, and has produced big time in college.

Wait for day three of the draft before gambling on traits you think can be developed.

My choices:
- WR in round 1….TMac, Golden, Edbuka (happy with any one of them at 12 or in a trade down)

- RB in round 2….Johnson, Henderson, Judkins (happy with any of them, assuming Hampton is gone)

- We can find quality CB, DT, Edge, and other depth in the rest of the draft. If someone wants a starting RG in the draft (I don’t think the Cowboys are thinking that way), we would have to do that early, probably pushing RB down into a danger zone.
Tell this to our CBs, they appeared to be great in their rookie year and appear to have decent speed, but when they play off the scrimmage line 10 to 15 yards, they can't get off the field because they can't stop their opponents from gaining 1st downs!

this is so Jerry jones leaking we are looking heavy at WR to get everyone pumped up that we are taking a outside player only to take a DT/OG to solidify the lines. people are going to loose there minds draft night.
Not if they make the right moves think about this if they can get an extra 3rd like they did with Parsons I mean remember this they got a low round 3rd and picked up OSA just by moving down two spots so what if they moved down five or six spots yes get a defensive tackle or a tackle for the offensive line in the first round then either got the running back or a corner in the second round but then now they have 2 3rd round picks to get the running back and wide receiver or wherever you want to move the positions where they pick but if they can pick up an extra so now they have four picks in the 1st 3 rounds and we address them all..

That will make fans happier because now he addressed the trenches but we also got the skill players the first two days and now we could just pick BPA the rest of the way...

All this want to draft Offense at premium picks is cool, as long as, the same folks don't turn around and blame the Defense and expect them to shut other teams Offense down when Dak n company is sputtering...don't say one word.
As long as we get another good wr, I don’t care if they spend the rest of the draft on defense, but you need two receivers to have any chance of winning.

Sorry, but Speed Kills...

Cowboys definitely need more Speed. Glad Schottenheimer mentioned it recently. Hope the Cowboys target speedy playmakers in this draft...

If the Cowboys trade down in the 1st round (hopefully twice) in order to get extra Day 2 picks, speedy WR Matthew Golden will definitely be gone. Here are speedy players the Cowboys could and should target...

RB:

Jaydon Blue: 5'9", 196 lbs, 4.25 40 time...

Bhayshul Tuten: 5'9", 206 lbs, 4.32 40 time...

WR:

Isaiah Bond: 5'11", 180 lbs, 4.35 40 time

Maybe because football requires players to have the ability to run in all directions to generate space as opposed to just running in a straight line.

I feel the same way. Wr in the 1st will be the best value and a need.

Henderson is my favorite of the backs you mentioned but I'd take any of them if avaliable.

If somehow none are available I'd be OK with the top CB/DT available.

That means for the 3rd a rb is a must, and I'm taking blue and not looking back. (I'm a big blue fan even if this is a reache for some people)

Chance of winning?
Amari, CeeDee, Gallup, Wilson, Shultz (TE)
Dez, TWill, Bease, and Witten

I don't get why drafting a WR is going to change what's been going on for nearly a decade with this QB. I agree a WR is needed at some point, but that's not the issue for this team or Offense. Defense and run game are the problem areas for the Cowboys.

I'm at a point where I want 2 traits above all else:

- Extremely high football IQ
- Genuine passion for the game

Give me Sean Lee, DWare, Tony Romo types. No more Mazi, Mo Claiborne types please.

very few of the prospects who have the fastest forty times at the combine ever make it big
Randall Williams was one of the fastest players in the NFL and what kind of career did he have?

Fumbles by the RB kill also, and that’s been a huge problem for Blue in college.

The game was different back then. We have kids that are training to enter the league at like age 5-8 now. They have dedicated coaches and trainers at that young of age. Technology and training techniques have advanced. Players are way faster now, even Dlineman. Parsons runs 4.3s and that's partly what makes him so good. Speed matters. It's not everything, but it matters.

"Bullet" Bob Hayes says, "Hello!"

So does Tony Dorsett, Herschel Walker, Deion Sanders, OJ Simpson, Walter Payton, Bo Jackson, Darrell Green, Alvin Harper, Randy Moss, Adrian Peterson, Marshall Faulk, Chris Johnson, Tyreek Hill, DK Metcalf, etc.

All 4.40 or faster 40 times, and all contributed big for their teams in the NFL.
