Just when you thought it was safe to come back to the forum, it strikes. Dangle your feet too deep in this thread and it'll gitchya.
This isn't the first one, oh Lawdy have mercy no, but this is the best must win thread so far in the season until that "win or they're out game" comes and hopefully, that's later than sooner.
With the schedule behind this Eagles game and the likes of MIN, CHI, DET, BUF, NE, LAR and PHL again and I wouldn't sleep on the Giants either, lose this game and be behind the division leading Eagles and I don't have much optimism for overcoming that. Win this game and I have a little more but not much.
They say "winning cures everything" and for once, I agree. Since I don't know what the real problems are with this team other than injuries to key players, a win isn't cathartic, it's season saving.....at least temporarily.
And it's not just going one up on the Eagles or stopping the skid but the one thing guaranteed to wreck a Cowboys season......the dreaded distraction.
That has already begun with the Garrett future guessing in the media, the blame solely on him and rumor of Riley hiding in the Rowdy suit on Sunday night. They are primed to go all out because we know nothing sells like Cowboys confusion.
There's two things I know about a Garrett team, they cannot overcome distractions but they can pull his butt out of the fire and that will be necessary to keep these players focused on the games at hand and this season and not who the future coach is and there's also this other little "event" hanging out there that would send this forum into a spiraling nightmare because some of you are holding onto that "Garrett gets his ticket punched on the 3:10 to Yuma" as the only bright spot of the season.
What happened when Landry was under fire by the media and fans in the papers? A new 10 year contract and Schramm shut that down promptly. If you think this GM isn't capable of that, think again. He's already defended him and had his son go one step further so the stamp of approval is already there. Lose this game and it gets crazy in the media and it would not surprise me for them to announce Garrett's extension during the bye. That's also the perfect time to stay relevant and dominate the sports news. And have they not been hinting since the criticism started after the Jets game?
So, my friends, this game might just be the must win game of the last 10 years because if I am right, we're going to need trauma teams brought into this forum for some posters if the Cowboys lose this game.
BTW, this Riley talk might be with Booger's cooperation. Back when AR was interviewing for a HC, the AD let Les Miles name get mentioned and Miles got a new contract and all the while they were hiring Bielema and Miles had no intention of leaving. Booger might be helping out his bud and cementing the relationship for the future.
