Philly wanted to snatch Doug Free from the Cowboys

8/7/2011 5:19:36 PM

According to Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network, the surprise teams that was vying with the Cowboys for Doug Free's services was the eagles.

Despite one report to the contrary, the Buccaneers were never a serious contender. The Eagles not only wanted to hurt a division rival but badly wanted Free to shore up their right tackle position.

This is old news!

New news is Lonyae Miller becoming the new Arian Foster

Well that's one we got!

And the most important one that we needed.

Makes me feel a bit better about losing out in the Asomugha sweepstakes.

I didn't know that! SO glad they didn't get him! I wonder if they offered top dollar for him?

I actually thought that if we had to lose one to the Eagles... I would MUCH rather have had it been Nnamdi Asomough than Doug Free.

They can have NA and I'll be thrilled with one of the best young LT's in the game.

I'll take free over Nnamdi. So sorry.

That is a no brainer, especially with a defense led by Ware with Ryan causing some confusion.

If Free took their contract offer, took a dump on it and delivered back to them...he would be my favorite player ever.

I only thought the the Bucs and bears because of cap room. Every division rival made sense for the reason above. You know how Danny likes to throw his money around.

Well remember Vick is a lefty, so the RT is just as important as a LT here cause it is his blind side. So yeah, they were probably pretty serious.

This was reported earlier, however, the Eagles wanted Free to play RT and I am pretty sure Free didn't want to take that offer and play that position. He was pretty set on playing LT, besides the left makes more $$ than the right.

Since that's the case I think Dallas got the better end of that trade off.

I'd much rather keep Free at LT and protecting Tony than I would have to have lost him and got Nnamdi to play CB.

There wasn't at trade-off. Eagirls were going to get Nnamdi and Free. I don't believe Nnamdi was ever a legit option for the Cowboys.

Can you imagine the chaos here if the eagles had signed all the players they did sign + Free? :laugh2:
