So this Saturday we all get to see the coronation of Cam Newton, greatest man ever, as he receives the Heisman. Well, that is, he gets to borrow the Heisman for a couple years. And everyone will laugh and smile and pose for pictures as we all pretend the guy isn't corrupt. :banghead:

Anyone but me sickened by the farce we are going to see in NY next week and then in Glendale on the 10th? My disappointment was lukewarn until I saw the violator get carried off the field yesterday. :bang2:

The Mr. Collegiate Football Pagent sickens me anyways. I've never watched the trophy presentation and don't follow who is or isn't getting consideration throughout the year.

Followed this Cam story from the beginning. It is a complete travesty what the NCAA is doing and allowing this charade to continue.

Reggie Bush was stripped of his trophy and UCS punished after the facts were out BECAUSE of all of the shenannigans going on w/ that agent and freebies to Bush's parents. Why wouldn't that apply to his father (and Cam..come on you can't tell me he didn't know what his dad was doing) shopping his son around to the SEC and other schools?

The NCAA ruling body is a complete JOKE of an organization.

The NCAA: Well it's not really breaking the rules when its found out you are shopping your kids as long as no money really switched hands.

COME ON!!!! :bang2:

If anyone but TCU or Boise would have been ranked #3 Cam Newton would have been out on his arse.

He deserves it. He was far and away the best college player in the nation.

I don't give a crap if he took money, or Reggie Bush for that matter. Did the money they take help them be the best player in the nation?

I think you could make the argument that it does help. Many players spend their summers working at a job, attending classes and also trying to squeeze in workouts. If Reggie Bush got paid, then he doesn't have to get a summer job, so he can spend more time concentrating on school and working out. That could be an advantage. It also takes some pressure off his mind that some of that money was used to take care of his family.

If getting paid money didn't matter, then some players wouldn't ever get offered money or gifts.

It DOES matter in the grand scheme of a person/players life and day to day living, but I disagree with joseephuss amd completely agree w ajk, money didn't make Reggie or Cam better players. If they used the money to buy steriods, then sure, but it doesn't allow Reggie to run faster or Cam to throw farther.

The Heisman isn't about just talent, it's about integrity as well.

You don't think money buys or allows for more time to work out. Player A has to work at a job to make some money while Player B doesn't. That can make a difference.

Peace of mind also makes a difference. Bush knew his family was taken care of while he was at USC. They didn't have to pay rent. You don't think that matters? Some players are stressed because they know their family has money issues. It matters.

I am not saying that the money is the reason Reggie Bush had success at USC, but it did play some part. His college career would have been different had he not received all those extra benefits. To what extent, I don't know, but it would have made a difference.

In the definition it is, but in the voters eyes its all about the stats.

"Awarded for : The outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity."

Im not saying Cam is guilty or not guilty. I am going off what the NCAA has deemed, that he is eligible. Thus, he is the best player in the nation by a wide margin this year and should win it.

yes, do you think if cam played for miss state, as he wanted, that he would have the same stats? it is still a team game and his team helped him get those stats and though we cant know what he would have done i feel safe in saying that i doubt he has the same year with miss state and same goes for bush, had he gone elsewhere, as im sure money was a factor in his school choice, he probably doesn't have quite the same success.

With the exception of a few voters, that is pretty accurate. It will be fairly obvious how many of the Heisman voters feel that the integrity clause has meaning because that will probably equate to the exact amount of votes that Cam Newton does not get. I know Mike Bianchi at the Orlando Sentinel has stated that he is not voting for Newton because of that clause. I would imagine a few more will do the same, but it will not be anywhere near enough to make a difference.

I'm sure five years after the trophy and BCS champioship game have been tarnished, "new allegations" will be brought to the public and the "prestigious" NCAA will throw down its' paper hammer on Auburn and Newton. Cam and family will be laughing it up while they are making major NFL Bank.

Will voters not vote for LaMichael James because of his past issues?

Apparently, there were enough voters who voted for both Newton and James since they are finalists.

You have every right to your opinion, but for now the rules are such that taking money is a big no no. Maybe they should change the system but right now it remains a cardinal sin. It would make him ineligile to play as well as ineligible for the Heisman. That's why I saw this story will be the elephant in the room on Saturday and he won't win the Heisman, he'll just be borrowing it for a couple years.

I would not take him as a 1st round QB. Mechanics need work, he's a spread offense QB, he's only had a single season of success and you have the questions on his recruitment. At the top of the draft, you can't miss. I think I'd wait and see if I could get him lower if I were a team. I just don't think he carries a 1st round grade. Maybe not even a second round grade.

Hey at least he isn't a good, God-fearing, nice guy like Tebow, right? I mean Tebow was just terrible for college football.

Get over it.
