He deserves it. He was far and away the best college player in the nation.

I don't give a crap if he took money, or Reggie Bush for that matter. Did the money they take help them be the best player in the nation?

Exactly my sentiments. Don't really care about the other stuff. And the NCAA declared him eligible - so where is the beef?

It's against the rules that's where/why there is beef. And the NCAA declared him eligible whoopty freaking doo. That means absolutely nothing. The government and others will get involved in this once the season is over. This investigation is just heating up. You sould just as naive as some of his other defenders 'Well if the NCAA ruled him eligible I'm ok with it, good enough for me :D". Please

Hey at least he isn't a good, God-fearing, nice guy like Tebow, right? I mean Tebow was just terrible for college football.

Get over it.

Those that say they do not care about it are exactly the reason there are so many problems like this in football and elsewhere.

Win at any costs is what you guys are saying.

This isn't some kid that let an agent pay his cell phone bill or some other penny-ante nonsense like that. By multiple accounts, he solicited almost $200,000 from a school to play ball there (and if anyone thinks it was just his father acting without Cam's knowledge, then I have some swampland in Florida they may be interested in). Sorry, but that's a pretty big deal. And if you don't believe me, just ask SMU if payments to athletes is a big deal or not.

I love the ironic coincidence that the Heisman Trophy Award show was followed on ESPN but the 30-for-30 program "Pony Excess" which is about SMU and all the scandals they had in the 80's.

:lmao:

Good to know parents can ask for money without the player getting in trouble.

College football is nothing but corruption, this is the way it has been forever. People who think it is different in modern times are partially right, the schools and recruits just got a lot better at cheating the system.

The BCS and all that garbage I can't watch anything with that crap.

Yep, isn't it great?

That Pony Excess show nailed it: SMU got whacked by being the rare college powerhouse in a big city with several newspapers and TV stations racing to be the first to bring them down. You know the same things happen all across the country, but there's no way the newspaper at State U's little town is going to dig and break the story.

It's funny, Galloway said several times leading up to this show tonight that back when this was going on, the boosters would admit that pretty much everyone in the SWC cheated, but they said we're choir boys compared to what goes on in the SEC.

+1. Dallas is a major city with lots going on. But if you look at places like Waco, Tuscaloosa, State College, College Station or Lincoln, and the local football program is the only thing those places have. None of their little runt local newspapers would ever dream of attacking the golden goose.

There is no evidence that Cam Newton took any money. As such, you can't penalize a player based on what might be uncovered in the future.

Cam deserved the award based on his play on the field. And no evidence of taking money means he didn't take money. Therefore, his integrity is intact.

Well there's plenty of evidence that he solicited money - or at least that someone solicited it on his behalf. In fact considering his father admitted doing precisely that, we don't even have to consider "evidence" anymore since we have an admission of guilt.
