It's about now that we check ourselves. Months of bloviating on about matters both meaningful and trivial alike, trying to pass the time until rubber finally starts meeting road. About now, we get that natural feeling of buyer's remorse that tinges our optimism. Usually, rightfully so.

Not this time.

Yes, things could go wrong in a hurry. True, a Romo injury or a rash of them elsewhere, and it's Elmer's and duct tape the rest of the way. True, the change at running back could make the offense a bit more predictable as Linehan rolls his committee of runners in and out of the lineup. It's possible, Philly could have found the magic formula and put together something beyond our rightful doubts. It's football, for crying out loud, and the endless possibilities are the reason we love it.

The national media is hoping and praying for that scenario, ignoring the flaws of other teams and focusing everything on Dallas' one or two question marks. It's comically unprofessional how they conduct business these days.

Regardless, those exact same buzzards circle every franchise every season. I think these Cowboys are more immune to it than most, thanks to impressive depth everywhere except quarterback (where no team really has a backup option long term).

I judge teams on three things: (1) quarterback, (2) offensive line, and (3) pass rush. Check, check, and check. Top 3 quarterback, best offensive line in the league, and a suddenly inspiring pass rush. Dallas is skillfully put together and ready.

Those three points are why I think 10-6 is a gimme, 11-5 is probably, and 12-4 is not a stretch at all.

That's my objective opinion, so I'll let the homer in me pick the high side. 12-4, NFC Championship game appearance. And then we'll see.
