I've been as critical as anyone of Jason Garrett, and rightfully so in my mind. I never felt his actual coaching accomplishments validated the amount of adoration he seems to have accumilated. I still don't.

But. Last night, and all this preseason really, were the first times I've seen him consistently use the run to set up the pass, instead of the other way around.

It always helps when you have players that can be productive on the ground, and with three quality backs, we do. It would also help to get some more consistency out of the run blocking, but that's a different matter.

I'm happy to see that he is actually learning to mix up the play calling, and even better, not abandon the run because it wasn't an 8 or 10 yard gain. If he keeps this up, I think we will be a better team for it and he will be a better coach.

I think he's obviously smart enough to change. And change he needed. But I'll wait to look at the regular season playcalling before I decide whether or not he's accomplished change.

Perhaps getting rid of TO was more "Garrett-friendly" than "Romo-friendly." I remember articles from when he became coordinator about how he was going to make TO the first read on every play, because he was such a playmaker. Obviously that was exaggeration, but whatever the cause, his offense lacked complexity.

Bottom line. If he can't make this offensive talent work, he's worthless.

I think we could all see this coming. With the RB corp currently in place added to the HC saying we needed to run more this is a natural progression. I truly miss the days of simply wearing down defenses in the 2nd half.

He'll learn more every year....he's a young coach, and as long as he doesn't get to the point where he thinks that he knows everything about Football that there is to know, he should continue to get better.

We'll see as the season progresses whether he can continue to mix it up consistently.

Fire him now. Well not now then we'd be out of a OC but I don't think we will go anywhere with him running the offense.

i would like to see us get up with the pass early and run until we have to score again. we know this team can score in a hurry so if a drive stalls because of running then we have an all world punter and a great D that can stop people. i just want to stop trying to out score everyone and score just enough to win and score at the right times and really controll the pace of the game, and with three running backss we can count on everybody will stay fresh, so there is no reason we cant do this.

Oh my.

:laugh2:

And what the hell is the deal with the screwed up avatar?

I think Jason Garrett is learning, and growing with the team.

Wade and Jason are both on the hot seat to me, this year.

If both fail as coaches, then that will possibly set this team back. So, we don't need that.

With no true deep threat since T O has left, (Miles Austin has 4.42 speed, while Ogletree has 4.37 speed, but both aren't proven in the passing game)the Cowboys in essence have to establish the run, then that sets up the pass. Exactly, what this team needs to do.

Remember the intelligence remark in the other thread?

You keep proving me right :)

That's always been my concern about him.

Garrett is still really young in terms of coaching. He basically coached 2 years in Miami as a QB coach and gets a OC gig? We can thank Jerry for that smart move.

I have no doubts Garrett is going to be a FANTASTIC Coordinator in this league I just am not sure how long its going to take and if we have the patience. Usually coaches move up slowly and learn all the ins and outs of coaching but Jerry for some reason said screw all that I want Garrett Now.
