The Fake Spike

Even though it was a dangerous pass...I LOVE the fact that we have a QB who has nerve enough to go against Parcells.

This is Phil Simms-esque.

I don't think he went against Parcells. He just tried to make a play.

It reminds me of the time that LT made a sack in a game after not running the play that he was supposed to and BP told him that wasn't the play. Then he did the same thing the next play, and sacked the QB again. BP again said something to the effect that it wasn't the play again. LT then responded, well you better put it in the playbook.

Something along those lines.

Parcells take on it per Mosley's blog

Parcells was reserved in his praise for Tony Romo, who was 20-of-29 for 308 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

He pointed to a throw that Romo made near the end of the first half that he said cornerback Antrel Rolle should've returned for a 99-yard touchdown.

"We told him to clock the ball," Parcells said. "Instead of clocking it, he used another play that we have that we call a watch, which almost got picked off....You won't be able to write about it because it didn't go 99 yards for a touchdown like it should have."

Funny it does seem they have a little back and forth going with Parcells wanting to reign him in and also just letting him play.

That whole series at the goal line at the end of the first half was weird. TO gets the first down.. despite 1 timeout left, we let like 15 seconds run off. then the fake spike- that thing was real close to going to the other way for 100 yards. does anyone know if that was that a planned call or romo ad libbing? and then we kick a FG, timeout still in our pocket.. terrible time management again.

I didn't have an issue with the fake spike. The throw wasn't good enough though. You have to put that on Romo.

If you listen to Parcells post game PC, that was not a designed play. One of those improvisational things that wasn't approved.

That seemed to be all on Romo.

Remember, I think it was a late preseason game last year, time running out and Romo ran a successful QB sneak, that BP said was not a coach call? I think when Romo gets close to the goal-line he starts to be more "independently minded"...

You know what was stupid. Romo faked spiked the ball and then instead of throwing it while everyone thought it was spiked, he wasted time and let the defense know that he didn't really spike it by fake pumping the ball before throwing it. That my friend, was dumb! Fake spike it then fire a laser before the defense can react!

Oh no...he went directly against Parcells on that play. He changed the play from spiking the ball to throwing the pass.

Good for him.

And yeah, back in those days, the give and take with Parcells and the players was great. THAT was the coach that I truly admired.

Maybe he's on that track again with Romo.

who did the fake spike earlier that day? eli? i can't remember now but that was the 2nd time that day i saw someone fake a spike close to the endzone.

then again i've had cold/flu stuff for a week and maybe meds were kicking in.

Not sure.

But did you see that Statue of Liberty play? Wow!

And the quadruple reverse in that other game.

Amazing stuff yesterday.
