(Mods, I posted this on the main forum instead of the draft forum because I thought it would be of interest to most Cowboys fans. If this is the inappropriate forum for this, you can make the necessary change.)

So you think you know who the Cowboys will take?

Put your money where your mouth is (figuratively of course).

I hope to make this an official contest of CowboysZone.

This is a short version and a long version draft contest. The short version involves only the first round, the long version includes all the rounds.

Here's how it goes:

1 point for an accurate pick. 1/2 point for correct position selected. 1/2 point for correct slot pick was made.

1/2 point for predicting an accurate trade down. 1 point if you pick the correct slot of a trade down (say you predict the Cowboys drop from #11 to #15, you get 1 point. If you predict a trade down but miss the slot, you get 1/2 point.)

minus 1/2 point if you predict a trade down but it doesn't happen.

So say you pick #11 the Cowboys take Marcus Spears when they actually take David Pollack, you get 1/2 for correct position (DE) and 1/2 point for correct slot.

If you pick Marcus Spears at #11 and the Cowboys take Marcus Spears at #11 you get 1 point for accurate pick, 1/2 points for correct slot and 1/2 point for correct position.

The long version accurate picks increase to correspond with the round. Because each round becomes increasingly difficult to predict, the greater the reward.

So if you pick the correction player in the second round, you get 2 points. 1/2 points will remain the same throughout all rounds.

You have until the morning of the draft April 23 submit your entries or change your draft. Good luck all.

P.S. If you have any questions or if I missed something, or if my rules are too complicated and can be condensed, please let me know.

why subtract half a point for incorrectly guessing a trade down? one guy says this player, one says no player - and each could be wrong but only one opinion is punished for it...

but i'll play! here's how it'll all play out, and you heard it here first...

with merriman off the board at #11, we trade down with the Saints to #16 in the Howard deal. remember, we're not giving up a pick for him. then when #16 rolls around, having filled our DE need with a solid veteran who can HELP US WIN NOW, and having targeted Blackstock from VA as our OLB, we use #16 on WR Williamson from S. Carolina. he is the fastest of the talented WRs and has the big-play capability that will keep safeties back in coverage. he fills a need as a future starter, and provides great insurance should Glenn go out again, since Bledsoe deserves to have a downfield threat available. it isn't a reach. as the smoke clears, it is announced the Cowboys have taken a WR with their first pick of the 2005 draft...

I'm assuming we get points for accurate predictions of trade ups too, no?

Nice.
Not only do I like the prediction but I like the outcome.
Could very well happen.

But I say then we trade down with #20.
With our new 1st rounder, get Demarcus Ware OLB.
With our first 2nd rounder get Eric Shelton RB.
And with our new 3rd rounder, get James Butler FS.

Day 1-
Darren Howard*
Troy Williamson
Demarcus Ware
Eric Shelton
James Butler

NICE!

It's near-impossible to participate in this contest because my personal preferences get in the way of my realistic predictions.

Basically, I know full-well that what I hope will happen in the draft, won't. It's happened too many times in the past. And Dallas's unorthodox draft methods never cease to suprise me. I expect the same this year. I'm going to give it some more thought before posting my realistic predictions.

other than shelton that draft scenario would be money-

I would gladly take a draft day acquisition of a very good de and a very good olb and a free safety who should start from day one.

I would prefer either trading down some in the 2nd round and picking up a 3rd- but if we stay at 42 give me one of the wr's that drop- roddy white, guy from a&m, draft is full of great cbs, wrs, and rbs.

just my imo
