Tom Landry was also a war hero as a pilot during World War 2. Landry was much of a man ,one of the greatest generation. This was long before he was installing his flex defense in Dallas, and overwhelming NFL offenses.
Thank you for mentioning Landry’s service in WW2. He was a war hero before he became an NFL legend. Some fans on this forum love to trash Landry. I call refer to those fans as “low information people”, lol.

Great post Art, spot on. Declaring war on common sense, that started right from the beginning when Mr ego elected to be GM. If I were to buy the Dallas Cowboys, a very top choice and knowledgeable GM would have been priority #1. Then I would have concentrated on being the best owner I could be. If this had been the course of business Ol Sour face may have been much more successful and viewed in a different light. Jimmy Johnson could have still been hired and the GM would have undoubtedly kept him as head coach after 2 Super Bowl wins. Dallas probably wins more Super Bowls than those 3 in the early 90's. Jimmy Johnson would have been able to hold those Great players on the roster. Result greater dynasty and more trophies.
Well said and I totally agree. The saddest part of the 30 year drought is that it never had to be this way. But then again, Jerry is a narcissist of the highest order. And he gets more defiant with each passing year.

Jerry has single handedly made our team totally irrelevant (playoff irrelevant) for three decades, and in the salary cap era, that’s extremely hard to do. I had hoped the NFL would pass a nepotism rule that would remove Jerry from the GM position, but it’s not going to happen.

The Calvary are not coming to save us, as Jerry made fans sign a “til death do us part” contract installing himself as our lifetime a) football fuhrer, supreme commander of all football decisions, b) minister of propaganda, with his yearly ridiculous tales of somehow making a Super Bowl lol and his PT Barnum style carnival barking, and c) Cowboys revisionist historian, still trying to convince fans he had anything to do with those three Super Bowls, when we all know Jimmy had the last word and it was Jimmy’s roster that won three.

I became a Dallas fan when I was 5 years old , after seeing Tom Landry on the sidelines in 1973. I really can't explain how a 5 year old appreciated coach Landry so much. My Dad was a Cowboys fan, but my Fandom was all my own . Is it possible that a young child could recognize greatness, it's deep. It's special, Tom Landry is a legend and hero to me even more now.

That is superb writing Art, I mean good stuff brother of the star. By being long time fans we truly love this team. One of my best early memories with the Cowboys was when Dallas beat the Broncos in the Super Bowl in 1977. Me and Dad was high fiving and bonding as fans , I locked in with Dallas in 73 with Landry on that 13 inch black and white TV though. Go Cowboys.
