Just some of my thoughts as I wait for my food in the local pizza shop
The Great
Byron Jones - All reports from camp are great, and I think he looked really good in that game vs AZ. He knows if he wants a long-term deal with this team, it's time to step up. I think Church leaving has actually made him better because he's been able to take on a leadership role, which may be giving him some added motivation.
Jaylon Smith - Do we all wish he was more than 80% recovered? Obviously. For being 80%, he looks GOOD. His personality is second to none and he's taken the advice of the trainers every step of the way. I always felt like he would heal, but we never truly knew. I think we can say now he's going to likely be full go Jaylon by the end of the season.
The Good
Running Back Depth - I honestly think it's safe to say we have 5 rbs now who are all capable of being productive. It almost doesn't matter to
me which 1-2 get cut because the other 3-4 will be more than fine.
Rookie CBs - Haven't heard of them doing anything earth shattering, but you hear the vets say all the time how eager they are to learn and how fearless they are. I think by next season we have a very very good secondary.
The Ok
La'el Collins - Have to admit I expected more, but don't think he's doing bad either. He seems to remind me of first baseman Ryan Howard, it's a homerun (pancake) or a strikeout (poor hand placement DE gets by). I'm not worried about him, but I do hope he gets it together soon with his hands. If he does, he can be elite.
Rico Gathers - Similar to La'el, he's making highlight reels or missing an assignment. I think he'll be a red zone threat and nothing more this year, but that's great if he can even be that. Just split him and Dez out wide pick your alley oop.
The Bad
Defensive Ends - Their behavior off the field is pitiful, and when they do play, they get hurt. 10/10 worried about this group as a whole.
Left Guard - I don't trust Bell or Cooper, and Green can't stay healthy. Thankfully, this arguably the least important position on offense after FB and being in between Tyron and Frederick will hide some holes
Overall, I'm pretty pleased two weeks into camp. I feel in the red about our defensive ends, but mostly because I'm tired of the same ole same ole there and didn't like taking a left end at 28. Aside from that, I think we're having ourselves a nice little camp.
