Geez you guys give old Gibbs a break.

He had to run back into the locker room to get his videos ready to send to the league office.

I don't know whether Parcells likes Gibbs or not, but I've read/heard in Washington papers somewhere that Gibbs doesn't like Parcells. I've even heard my own brother (a Commander fan) make senseless derog comment about Parcells based on nothing & that's extremely unusual for him. BTW: Am I going to enjoy ribbing my brother when he recovers from Skins loss & gets around calling me--probably today. I've never done that in the past even when we beat them so many games in a row. But when we visited in July, he turned to me and asked how Cowboys will recover after Skins beat them in Sept and they are 0-2 & Skins are 2-0. Was not amused and I intend for first time NOT to turn the over cheek.

It also probably stems from the fact that Parcells has a pretty good record against Gibbs...

I dont think they like each other much and that makes me happy, I dont like gibbs at all either he is different with this return and his mouth and actions have made me lose a significant amount of respect for him.

i agree. i think ole joe started believing all the press clippings. no question in his first go around he was a good coach, but a lot of things played into that.

no cap (able to get and keep players, or bring them along slow, which didnt make personnel decisions as critical as they are now) and another big factor overlooked was the acquisition of talent by beatherd at GM. tho he wanted to be, joe wasnt really involved in that side of the franchise - he took what was given him. when you look at the players they have acquired since his return, you can see why.

but my point is that when gibbs left, the advent of free agency, he had acheived legend status here in dc. success with nascar only elevated that - "man that gibbs is a winner..." went the thought process with the casual Commanders fan.

with the franchise wallowing like it had been, fans beckoning for a return to the glory days under gibbs, IMO he figured with an owner who money was no object for, hed be able to come in, buy what he needed in terms of players and succeed. and of course, there was a parade, the return of the prodigal son, and all that.

and yet, nobody can look at the franchise and say since his return theyve gotten significantly better. if anything, they are continuing along the same level of mediocrity, which of course is the direct result of the idea that throwing money at this team - the players, the coordinators - wll result in fantasy football league success.

all you have to do is listen to gibbs (the weekly whining about the calls and sending tapes - all of which will change not a thing in terms of the team's wins and losses) as well the demeanor (not able to watch fg attempts during the game, the classless manner of the handshake after the game with parcells - who cares if he likes him or not, its about sportmanship and i was always told lead by example) to see how the pressure is tremendous for this guy.

that said, i too have lost respect for the guy because we all have choices and pressure or not, acting like an a** is a totally personal decision and one well within your control.

Joe Gibbs, the original, (he of the 80's era successes, championships) was a pretty doggone good football coach. He was respected, liked by his players, loved by his team owner and his dog. All good.
Joe Gibbs II, like most movie sequels, just stinks. Seems to be a bitter shell of a former NFL coach.

I would agree with that...I used to think Gibbs was a sensational coach, but since he's returned its the same old tired stuff from him...your team looks liek crap on the field and loses, and the next day his first reaction is to blame the officials and send tapes left and right of plays he doesnt like the calls on...I have never seen a coach that whines and cries about the officiating as much as he does, even though his team is usually a benefactor of said bad officiating...

I can remember a number of seasons in the 80's & 90/91 before he retired where his teams hardly ever drew flags, especially for offensive holding

I think I'm with you here. I have tons of respect for this guy, but he seems overwhelmed by the changes to the NFL as well as the whole Snyder cash machine the Washington organization has become.

As for the lack of handshakes between the two coaches, IMO sometimes competition does that to you. These two want to beat each other badly and are used to the other being in the way. Despite a common approach with regards to practice and discipline and a dedication to running the ball, there's little additional common ground in their approaches to the game.

Gibbs loves the passing game and Parcells believes a solid defense, ST's, and the running game all come before a sophisticated passing attack. Gibbs is also much, much less of a hardass than Parcells.

Found a picture of the video tape archives at the NFL head office.
This particular picture is just the section sent in by Joe Gibbs
complaining about calls.

anyone see the parcells-gibbs handshake again last night?
looked like gibbs tried to pull another look away
:laugh2:

ps: saw parcells hugging and talking to a lot of skins players, he really seems to be a coach players respect and like (except antonio bryant)

Belichick wouldn't even look at Mangini after the Patriots/Jets game during their handshake. :laugh2:

He and Gibbs would probably have a love fest together talking about how they are the only coaches who really get it.:laugh2:
