I know It's a menial subject but, is like Niswander. Now they have to "Anger" me. I get the connection to the staff but, He is long in the tooth for an NFL player. Can we keep the young buck please?

Is this a fair competition or is it rigged?

I like the competition in TC, it is needed. However, I am pulling for Niswander to get the roster spot. I think he did well to finish out the year last season.
I think their stats are about the same though the difference in years of experience. So can't go wrong with either one.

The moment we signed Greg the Leg it was a done deal. Contract dictated he was going to be the kicker.
Both Anger and Nis are on cheap deals. Niswander is on a 780k deal and Anger is at 988k.
Anger was able to punt in MC and Niswander wasn't there with details unknown exactly why.

He'll have his shot in TC and PS to compete.

Still find it hilarious that Anger was drafted before Russell Wilson

32 years old isn't old for a punter.
His punting average last year was 46.4 yards. Less than Hunter but under 1 yard difference.

Either one is better than watching a guy punt badly for two years before cutting bait, then claiming he has hurt the whole time.

I'd still like to know what was what with that, but whatever.

MM raising that trophy will get me over it I'm sure.

I think it will be a fair competition as for age it is up Niswander to show his younger leg is better.

It should be a real competition. Niswander earned that much with his performance last year. But Anger has a history of success, so he should compete as well. I don't see his age as a big problem.

I'm a bit more concerned with FG kicker than punter. Currently Zuerlein is the only FG kicker listed. While I like Zuerlein I would like to see another FG K brought in

How much difference is there between the two anyway? 1 or 2 Yard average maybe? .2 Second hang time difference. No big deal. Difference might come down to who is the better holder.

Punters in the NFL are pretty much the same these days. Punt returns are a thing of the past. Exercise in fair catching.

Everyone loves NIswander but do you want him getting comfortable by saying the job is yours no matter what? No harm in having someone else along to keep him on his toes (or foot).
I never like this. If your professional need someone on his butt to make him better he’s not really a true professional. But maybe that’s what the world has come to. People need to be pushed

Not menial at all. A punter can be a weapon. A good punter can change field position just when the offense is sputtering. Chris Jones used to save his worst punts for the most crucial situations which is why I am happy to try a new punter. I linked Niswander too. He seemed pretty steady and consistent last season. I am not a big fan of Anger but I think he makes the team over Niswander.

I think the powers of nepotism runnith deep.

Did you grow up with brothers or had a tight-knit friend group as a teen or in college? Or plain ol' competed in sports? Men compete for everything naturally whether blood or bro. The presence of another automatically stirs this up in a person and we never outgrow it. Throw in the chance to continue making money for the most visible team in all the land and yeah, that'll make you put it into an extra gear if someone is there to threaten that. And this ain't superstar QB we're talking about. It's the lower end of the roster. Men compete. Teams would be fools to not take advantage of that knowledge.

And I never like the "blame it all on ..." or "in my day ..." catch-alls, either. In many cases, it's lazy logic for resisting change to "how I did things" and usually serves those just wanting something to complain about or virtue-signaling pandering for "yeah, I know what you mean, bro" comments from other old farts, lol. Most modern-day players would run circles around the vaunted players of old, in large part due to their motivation to achieve more than the legends before them. Again, the presence of another does motivate a man. But regular joe posters are too distracted looking at the money players make today to stop and think about those intricacies.

Is it nepotism, or giving a shot to someone based on personal knowledge? Part of what you hope to get with an experienced coach is the benefit of what he has learned over the years.

And let's not act as if Anger is not a worthy person to compete for the job. He has a strong history in the NFL.

Ultimately the coaches are judged by the success of the players and units they coach, so they aren't going to give a job to someone that jeopardizes the success.
